  • Cold start issue with FSZ

    hey guys,
just got my FZS 2 days back and i have a problem with cold start.

even though i pull the CHOKE all the way down and the start the bike, the bike does not get started...even with the choke off.
i have to Revive while pressing the elec. start button and then only the bike starts but after few seconds the engines dies!so i have to keep reviving for some time till the engines heats up!

    any help?
    am i doing anything wrong?

    thank you

Change the slow speed of your carb. There is a screw to change the idling speed. Your engine is dying because your idling speed is very low.

When idling make sure that the RPM is atleast 1000.

        EDIT
ok i tried starting right now!this is what happened!

        set IGNITION KEY to ON
        then FUEL to ON
        ENGINE SWITCH to ON
        CHOKE to ON
        tried starting...fail...tried around 6 times..including pressing for a while

i then switched OFF the CHOKE and tried...on my 5th or 6th try the bike started, idling at 1000 but as soon as i switched CHOKE to ON,ENGINE FAILS,then it only starts with CHOKE OFF.

        what is going on guys?
anyway ill got to YAMAHA tom!

        thank you

choke is not to be turned on when engine running.. turn choke on before cranking the engine

oh dint know that..thanks,so once the engine is started with the choke, should i OFF it immediately or after 30-40sec?
anyway like i mentioned the bike was starting only with the choke off!
btw is 1000 the idle RPM?
            thank you

              Here's a step-by-step guide:

              1. Start the bike (choke OFF)

              2. Ride around for about 5-10 km continuously to let the engine warm up a little.

              3. Shift down to NEUTRAL, stop the bike ( do not turn off the engine)

              4. Set the engine idle RPM to 1300-1500 by turning the engine RPM screw anti-clockwise to increase RPM, clockwise to decrease (might take some time to find the right settings).

You're all set to go now

when the engine is warm does the Bike switch off when you on the choke?

Idle RPM varies from bike to bike. FZ's idle RPM should be 1300-1500 according to the manual. Check page 6-11

go to ASC and get the problem sorted out...dont set the idle speed urself..it should be set using calibrated machines....although setting by hand is OK....but dont do it....leave the job to professional....and since the bike is new..better not fiddle urself or else teh Service center guys will blame everything on u....

agree with sava....it should idle at 1300RPM or not below 1200RPM....

I do had the same problem in my Kid for many days...
TVS SV was Cramp,....and after few Demnistrations i found this small Formula....

Cool Morning with night full of showers....
Bike Engine oil will sleep all the night....so the engine and its parts will be cool......
                            Take the bike....switch on Ignition.....
1 - Hold the Disc brake and pull the bike in front by sitting on the bike....so as you hear the fuel dance in the Tank....- this sill remove all the airlocks in Fuel tank and in Engine....
2 - Use the clutch lever for some 6-8 times ....
3 - Noe its your Choice i use kicker---since FZ doesnt have a kicker go for Self...
4 - Use chock and start the Bike.....and leave it for some 5 sec....thats it...Your Bike is started.....

This method has been tested with Flame...Uni...Stunner....P200....and worked

So this will work better in ur Babe tooo....Give a try...If the above is not working....then ur bike has been set for Lean mixture of Fuel....of some setting has to be set in Carb.....
