  • Need to improve my fz!!!

    Hi Guys,

I am planning to do some changes to my FZ16. It has run 6000 kms & due for 3rd Service. I was thinking of changing the airfilter with K&N(or any other good ones), wanted to change my sparkplug with Bosch twin head & also the headlight with new white colour. What i wanted to know was what are the stuff i need to take care of before this & required settings for my bike, so that the performance should increase but not letting go the milage. I bike gives avg. 43 in city & 50 in highway.

It would be helpful with your comments & also do i need to change anything else that i forgot.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE
    Yamaha FZ16 - 2009 to 2011
    Pulsar 220F Black - 2011.......

1 - K&N : K&N can be used for your bike but you need to Upject your Bike
2 - Bosch twin head : No need for anything to be changed for this - its a Plug and play
3 - headlight with new white colour : I think ur referring to OSROM Night Breaker or Philips Night Vision,,,there are lots of issues in using this as these bulbs will drink the battery charge .... and offcourse as days roles the Light will not be that much effective,,,,,
And also they are meant to used only in Projector Lights and using them by replacing your FZ headlight will Blind the opposite Vehicles....

Thanks Thunder. I didn't understand the part UPJECT. I enquired about the cost of K&N filter with the dealer its quite resonable. But they dont do the fixing, we have to manage with it by ourself or through mechanic. What about the headlights you are telling, is there any other alternate i can find. Because the problem with the current led is it is bright when there is no light, but when it comes to a low light (means street lights) they dont seem to work well. Its just blinding me by mixing it up. I am having hard time travelling in highways will touring or night driving.

bro see only k&n a/f & spark plugs won't increase your performance you need to do many things....
you should go for k&n a/f but after your bike warranty is over don't be in a hurry second thing k&n a/f will destroy you rings the setting is most important + upjetting it too....
spark plug is good option in because it increases the milage and burn fuel properly at high speed don't buy any platinum spark plug they shot at high speeds go for iridium is best ngk=550Rs each....
and now the headlight with new white colour which means HID which will cost you round 2000Rs-2500Rs
which will not increase your milage it will kill your milage....
FIRST WAIT TILL YOUR WARRANTY IS OVER....
AND PERFORMANCE AND MILAGE ARE NOT FRIEND THE ARE EXTREME RIVALS OR THEY ARE INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO EACH OTHER.....

How about a free-flow exhaust? or if you want to keep your Fz exhaust, you can try knocking off the resonator box situated beneath the surface, perhaps that would help to give you a bump in power.

Knocking of the resonator box isn't going to do anything, since it doesn't change the restrictiveness of the exhaust. It would probably degrade performance, since it helps low end torque.

The only way is a properly designed free flow exhaust. Combined with a K&N and upjetting it'll give you some boost, but it won't be stellar.

                  @Galaxtus :
My kind advice to you is not to do the so called K&N , Freeflow, etc etc

Just keep your FZ as Stock condition.... Coz since you said you are a tourer.....its hard to do long touring with K&N since you wont like the rough engine sound that K&N Produces...and moreover the Engine heat...
I've seen 80% of guys who installes K&N Removes it back after using it for few months....
U can go for a spark plug change - as it wont harm anything in your bike....But i would say No No for other performance modifications

Only Drag racers do these modifications .

If ur not happy with ur Stock Headlight - check for after market Fog lights and High Beam Light which can be fitted in the crashguard of ur Bike and used at times needed,.....though this will also affect the batery life - u can avoid using these lights in unwanted conditions....and yes u can still be claiming for warranty as while taking the bike to SV center remove these lights .......

What do you think i have to do. I am happy with my bike but not satisfied. This bike is very unique & as different ride & handling feel. But the most conserned thing is will going long distance with high speed the engine gives a jurk kind of feel. It automaticaly gets off. I need to wait about 5 to 10 mins to get my bike started. I dont know why it happens, maybe due to lack of air & fuel flow to the engine. Other than that this bike is really a awesome machine. But nothing can be perfect right. If i dont go for the performance atleast it should be CONSISTENT. I am planning to go long ride about 2500 kms up & down. I need to ensure nothing happens to bike condition due to small malfuntion.

Ok At high Speeds while going Long Distances - the bike getting swtich Off !!!!! ------- Strange condition
This happens only when the engine is Overheated....and if ur running in a Lean Mixture...or a Fuel Air Lock
Check for Engine oil level and Carb Tunning..
If ur using any aftermarket Engine Guards...Remove it ....make it in Stock Condition - coz this will increase the Engine Temperature...

As far as the New Generation Bikes are concerned everything has to be perfect....There should not be any Let go's....We are not running the Old TVS50 or Bajaj Chetak to live with the problems....
These High Technology Bikes should be kept in Top Perfect position....
So drive her to the Yami Showroom and get the work done by them rather than doing Home Remedies.....Since its under warranty ---- Sit on thier Backs and get the work done,,,,,

BRO YOUR BIKE JERKS DUE TO FOLLOWING REASONS I THINK
1>DUE TO FUMES WHICH ARE CREATED IN THE TANK.
2>YOUR SPARK PLUGS MIGHT HAVE DUST ON IT.
                        3>CARBURETOR MAY NEED CLEANING.
                        4>CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER

YOU SAID YOU ARE PLANING TO GO FOR LONG RIDE ABOUT 2500KM UP&DOWN GO BUT NOT WITHOUT CHECK UP's...
