Swing Arm replacement for P180 UG#

Longer swingarm will give longer wheelbase so, theoraticaly, longer wheelbase will minimize weight transfer from rear to front while breaking, effectively providing more bite to rear wheels. Imagine your wheelbase is ridiculously short, say about an inch. You won't be doing stoppie, you'll be doing somersault. Now take this example to the other extreme i.e. ridiculously long. You get the point.
So if you could make your wheelbase longer even by two, three inch and does a good job. It may help. But since the job may require more than plug-and-play, your bike may be worse off If job is not done properly. Safest bet is tyre change, but then I do like experimenting.

hey...are you sure the p200 swingarm is a direct fit for the 180ug3?? i'm planning to replace it....no other great problems on replacing it right?? other than the sliding part...Originally posted by tanay View PostWell, I have a P200.

the catch here is, even if you do install that swingarm, the bike will still fishtail. My bike ALWAYS does that. And I have the stock tires.
Now if a 200 also fishtails, what gain could you get by changing your swingarm? Possibly a new set of tires (or just a rear one) that is soft compound will help... someone here fitted the R15's tires on his 200 and reported the sliding had stopped completely. The swingarm's heavy as well.
I'd say skip the swingarm. Put some nice tyres.-This world would've never been better without my set of 2 wheels!!

Guys, Even I'm planning to go in for the P200 swing arm with P180UG4 sprocket kit, please guide me if its a direct fit or if its not possible to mount them, After buying the spares i dont want to waste so much money.
The reason for the swingarm change is
1>There is a slight wobble in the swingarm and that has screwed up the handling, the bush which holds the swing arm has been replaced but still swingarm is having play, so i thought of changing the whole swing arm to that of 200 or 180ug4
2> I like the open chain of P180ug4 so fitting that on the current swingarm has to be done after reducing links of chain etc, so i want to change the swingarm and make it a direct fit.Fun Starts at Redline!!!

To the OP:
IMO don't change the swing arm.... instead check if your alignment and front cone set as well as rear wheel bushings are fine as that will cause wobble or play in ur rear wheel which may cause you to sway to one side on breaking even lightly... it may be a balancing issue... did you have a fall recently?
otherwise if those things are fine and you want to improve ur traction when breaking you can go for a softer compound rear tyre...
I would suggest Michelin if your budget can afford it( I just put a sirac sport 120/90-17) in my pulsar 180 ug3. It is amazing... it fits will almost no modifications... u may touch the swing arm a bit as in my case but any local mechanic can take that to a welder or you can take it to a welder and get it done... otherwise a new chain can bet put which will increase the distance between the tyre and swing arm( not sure about this)....also the chain guard might need to be cut a bit.... thats all...
the tyre is awesome... it grips very well and you will be able to maneuver better too... its also wider so it helps that way too on stability.... if not that tyre then you can go for pirelli speed demon ( these wear to fast i have hear) for a cheaper option even ceat vertigo sport is also an ok tyre... Used it before the Michelin and it did its job well... its a button style though...

problem was that, when i asked the MRF guys, they told there was no beading in the alloy.....
and upsized tyre
i'm using the stock R15 tyres...

A friend of mine is having sirac on his p180 and it feels like we are riding doubles even if u are riding singles.. The traction is simply superb, feels like bike is on rails but the down side is it has lost its top speed, can only hit 120 at the max now.. while my bike manages 128 very easilyOriginally posted by dggopal View PostTo the OP:

, so i dont want my top speed or acceleration to take a hit. Can the 200 swing arm be fitted on the chassis without any modifications??? I dont want to upsize tyre that is the reason i'm looking for fixing the swingarm.

yeah I dunno bout modding the swing arm man... even if it can be done it has to be done by a really skilled mechanic IMO or else you run the risk of spending a but load and messing up the balance of the bike too...
I really don't think that putting different swing arm will help in ur traction problem... even with a diff swing arm and the same small tyre and hard compound you are still going to skid at high speed turns and loose gravel... only if your swing arm has a bend or a problem is changing it gonna help... otherwise you need to increase the traction of your tyres... ie: get wider tyres or softer(stickier) compound.....

OT: yes, that is it what an ug3 manages at the max on stock gearing. 128 @ 10.3k in top gear(which is 125 true(Its old speedo with very less speedo error). so i am planning to change sprocket kit to that of 180 ug4.Originally posted by abdelazeez View PostA bit OT, but is that a max top speed of 128 on the P180?

so it seems after advising against changing the swing arm... I too am in the same boat now as people have suggested me to do the same since i have "shaved" a little of the excess of the swing arm off to accommodate a larger tyre ( Michelin sirac)... they say since I wasn't there at the time the welder did the job who knows how much metal he took off because now it seems it is filled with janta paste, or atleast the paste can be seen on the outside... dunno how deep it is on the swing arm... although the bike is running smooth I am thinking of changing the swing arm just to have peace of mind... I have a p180 ug3... what swing arm can i put on it to accommodate the bigger tyre (120/90-17) and whats a reputed place to get this mod done in Bangalore?
