The bike seems to be in a good condition (atleast visibly) -we haven't test-ridden it yet, gonna do that probably tomorrow or the day after- and the only negative thing that our mechanic could point about it was that the chain & sprocket need to be replaced. The battery's dead (no display in the LCD as well), but he thinks recharging it ought to do the trick. Most other stuff seems OK as far as he could tell.
Coming to the point, this mechanic (as well as a couple of others from the same garage) have advised us against purchasing a P220DTS-fi mainly due to its FuelInjected feature, which (according to them) is pretty naive and has a lot of flaws (he gets quite a lot of these bikes for repairs/servicing etc every week, I know that for sure). According to him, the FI system in the P220DTS-fi is actually a cheap implementation of FI and thus comes with a number of issues.
For instance he pointed out that the FuelInjection system in the P220 DTSfi doesn't perform consistently at all times, leading to the engine getting irregular amounts of fuel injected into it, causing it to -at times- run either too lean or too rich; rarely does it run at the perfect mixture of air and fuel. Besides -he says- this also causes irregular figures of FE to be recorded at times.
His honest verdict on the P220DTS-fi was that it should be avoided at best. Moreover, according to him, a P200 would be a better choice anyday over the P220DTS-fi (of course he says the P220DTSi is great too, but we were talking about used bikes there).
One of the other mechanics there even went so far as to say that the P180 UG3 was better than the P200 as well and given a choice he'd opt for the P180UG3 rather than the P200 or the P220DTS-fi.
Their comments landed us both into a conundrum of sorts since my friend was intending to sell off his P180UG3 and purchase the P220DTS-Fi.
Could someone out here please guide us as to
a) how much of the above points are indeed true/valid,
b) would it be a bad move to sell off the P180UG3 (which BTW is an April-08 model and in immaculate stock condition - black in color I might add) and go in for the mid-07 P220DTS-fi?,
c) Is 55K a reasonable price for a mid-07 P220DTS-fi?
d) Would a used P200 indeed be a more sensible choice than the P220DTS-fi?
Any comments/help would be much appreciated since my friend's hoping to close the deal soon.
