    [Photo Feature]: [Help]: Touring with aircooled bikes

    I own Pulsar180 UG4 i am planning to have 3 trips in coming days before diwali each of 700kms(350-350).i will take my bike with mine friend as pillion.
    i want to know whether a 180cc aircooled engine is capable of doing 75-90kmph continuously(in my case consider 2-3hrs) without affecting engine
    efficiency/performance.i am thinking of having breaks of 10-10mins in between every 50-60mins.
    pls get me out of this dilemma friendz

    I don't see it being a problem. I have toured many miles on my P180 Classic, the highest being an 817kms. run in a single day, and it didn't miss a beat!

    Just relax and enjoy the trip. It's your health and well being which you need to be worried about more than the machine. Human fatigue will be a major issue more than the machine.

      I had been riding my RTR 160 daily for 75+75 KMs almost daily for like 6+ months, never faced any issue.... on days when I am mind fudged (read atleast twice a month :P) I used to sneak away for small 400KMs ride :P
      No issues...

        Aryan is spot on.

        Worry more about your self than about the bike. For the bike, just keep it in good condition and if possible a better engine oil than the SC one if you want to be a bit more sure about it.

          but i thought that running aircooled bikes for more than 1-2hrs continously causes engine to heat, specially in indian climatic regions..
          i am looking forward to go for shell fully synthetic oil on my 2nd service due in 4-5 days.. any comments on it

            These engines are highly tested before coming to market there will be no problem...but i recommend get your bike checked up and serviced before every trip and also one thing more i rather prefer to ride at speeds of 75-80 km/h with a pillion behind because sometime its difficult to break at the time of emergence.
            yes sometime the engine get heated up but it's in the hot climate area & even the drum creates problem...and bro engine heats up when you press clutch and brakes again & again...

              so finally what is the tip to ride on long route so that the motor and me both are running stress free????

                +10000 after pouring motul 300V the cruising ability of my Cbz has gone up a notch.... thats the way i feel.

                    Me and my friend did 11,000Km trip.. on Pulsar 180 UG3.. and for us it has been the most reliable bike made on earth.. ever!

                    If you are lucky, nothing will happen.. not even a puncture. even on worst of roads!

                    Some pointers though

                    (1) Switch to Motul 300V - It makes a hell lot of difference.
                    (2) The "Sweet Spot" of 180 is 90Kmph, you can maintain that.. without any worries.
                    (3) Take breaks of at least 15 mins after 2 hours of riding, engine does gets stress out in high ambient temperature, especially in afternoon.
                    (4) Carry extra screws, nuts,bolts and a Spark Plug.


                    I remember Mr. Venkat Shyam's words, before we started - "You don't test the bike, the bike tests you" So don't worry at all, enjoy the nature!

                      Tip is that give rest to both machine and human...everybody need rest even our machines.. don't be a road runner... take brakes not long but you can take small brakes throw this you will not feel fatigue...& can cover long distance...
                      you can do some photography at the same time...
                      you said you have a pillion...then you can shear the riding distance with him
                      It is said that taking a pillion who doesn't know riding is equal to carrying a burden...

                        thanks, i am alittle too cautious person so will take 10mins break every 1 hr of riding.

                        my bike has done 2100kms and 2nd service still due, should i flush engine before using motul300V, should i move to motul this time or on 3rd service

                          exactly mine friend doesnot knows highway riding.

                          that sets me hahahaha....

                          he drives a platina in city and is not good in riding he drives like a doodhwala.

                          so absolute burden of 55kgs and 6-8hrs of riding i had to do, i would not take any risk..

                              what about keeping the engine cool by spraying(throwing) water on it at every stop... may be 2-3 mugs of water... is it good to try
