  • Cleaning the P180 Air Filter

    Hi. Since the last thread has solved my disk brake problem, I have moved on, due to curiosity to the next part.

    I would like to know how to clean the stock air cleaner element for my 2007 P180 DTSi. I think it is located behind the right hand chasis cover but please confirm and suggest a method of cleaning.

      Thank you.

      I found out where it is and removed it but have no idea how to clean it.

        1) Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the foam first (Optional)

        2) Immerse the filter element in petrol/kerosene and clean

        3) After it s dry, spray some fresh oil on the filter element and replace the filter back in place.

        Note: This is applicable only when the filter is said to be re-usable after cleaning, if not, just replace the air filter element

          Thanx for the reply.

          1 Im not sure whether its re-usable, its the stock filter so is it re-usable?

          2 By filter element you mean the square foam thing, right?

          3 Do i use my engine oil?

          I opened my side cover, removed the bolts that hold the filter cover. There was a square foam thing, with 2 layers of foam, yellow layer and white layer, with a plastic frame in between. Then there was a metal mesh. After this was a big pipe open which i believe leads to the carby.

          Thats the way its supposed to be right? Am i missing any components?

            IF , after a cleaning cycle, the filter still holds a fair amount of dirt, it is better to get it replaced. (Refer ur manual for periodic maintainence, for when to replace)

            Yes, the foam thingy is the filter element (Yellow and white)

            U can use any UN-USED oil. It just serves as a medium on the foam to help attract dirt.

              Now i dont know whether i should post here or in the general!

              Still have a doubt on the oil. Since i do not have any unused oil, i was thinking can i use the oil given, loose, at pertol stations for atuorikshaws?

              Or if i buy packaged oil what would be the smallest bottle i can buy?

                Just buy a 2t oil sachet. You will get it at bigger oil dealers and petrol bunks.

                      You are better off using a new filter element rather than cleaning it. Costs less than 50 bucks. Use 2T oil.

                        @drvmtm
                        Thank you. I really dont WANT to do it but i cant find a place that does it to my satisfaction. Plus i really like to know all the equipment i use inside out to the max of my understanding.

                        @abhijeet080808
                        Thank you 4 advise. But i alredy cleaned and put it back yesterday. I missed it this time but ill change in next service, the bike is just 7500km now. i think the manual says replace at 10k km.

                        Plus one more question: isnt the oil dispensed from those pumps meant for autorikshaws 2T? It wud be better if you could answer in the http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...eneral-qs.html thread. Its more organised. Im trying to kill this and other threads i created so that i dont take up too much "space".

                        Thank you again.
