  • Gear Display for Unicorn

Hello Dear Riderz,i had a question on my mind...Is it possible to install a gear display on indain bikes like Cbz,Hunk or Unicorn? Because we sometime mistake about our gear status after putting 5gear, we still go for next which is irreting to me.Thats why i want to do this.Any one have any idea or do this?

    Story Behind my question-
Some days ago i go to Local shop and find something for this and found two things 1.Digital Meter(china made)2.Gear display (for china bike).
The boy of the shop said me that if i install Digital meter for my unicorn, The meter come with gear display which can show the gear status. But i dont belive it and go for the china display which is small in size and have 4wires on it.Then i go to local mechanic he said for installing da gear display i have to change my gear pattern or something, He confused me and i went from there.

    Thanks...

If you are interested, I made a digital gear display (1-4 gears). I am sure that this can be extended to 5 or six gears. This uses the existing neutral light connection and 2 extra switches. Actually I wanted to install it on my BSA & sunbeam but unfortunately they both don't have any neutral lights. I am trying to figure out how to do it.

I would definitely like to know the procedure for this one. I have a r15. i love it. But the only thing missing is a gear indicator. No problem if i have to install a custome made
A fact -- It takes more love to share the pillion seat, than to share the bed.

The Kinetic Challenger, Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki GS150R have the gear indicator display. Does someone know how they work?

I just hope you don't need sensors/switches in the gear box.

                Good news!

Here is a solution for gear indicator with diagram.can any one can do this?because i am not a expert guy on this subject

This is interesting. The IC used is LM339, which is Quad Differential Comparator.
But it still needs Gear Position Sensor. Can Abhi help us here?

Yeah, it just compares voltage level from the gear position sensor and lights up LEDs as voltage increases.

LM339 is Quad Comparator. LM340(U1) is 5V regulator for the comparator ICs. Resistors set the voltage at which the LEDs comes ON. The high beam signal dims the LEDs at night.

And, the gear signal is a potentiometer connected to the gear shaft I guess. Atleast, its o/p is a variable voltage signal where voltage varies with gear shifts.

                      Well, my simplest DESI suggestion
"Use two switches one on the top of the gear lever and second below gear knob, so when you hit the lower switch the LED will glow in fashion of 4321 as you further push down\up(depending on gear pattern) the gear lever(

Yeah, its possible and simpler than the design specified here. We will need 2 switches, J-K Flip Flops forming a counter, BCD-7 seg decoder and LED display.

A year ago i had seen a bolt on kit for splendor but since thats a 4speeder,it wont work.I suggest you get hold of one from the gs or the zeus and couple the unit to a series of LEDs(sorry i am from mechanical stream, dont know about electricals in depth)).better get hold of a good electrician, preferably ones who does projects.
