  • Airbox Snorkel- Keep it or Lose it ??

    Hey Guys,

I have noticed that quite a few of our RSA members in Pune have removed the snorkels to their airboxes. Due to this the bike sounds a lot different with a growling, snarling sound emanating whenever the bike is revved hard. I tried this too, and have noticed a minor improvement in pick-up, however the bike seems to run hotter as well. Can anybody comment on this, does removing the snorkel really help?? If it does, then why do manufacturers install the snorkel in the first place?? Comments and help are most welcome.

    regards,
    Rohan

PS :: Mods, sorry, i realised after posting that this went to the wrong topic, can anybody move this to the right one?? extremely sorry for the inconvenience.
    Peace!!

A Snorkel is the curved rubber piece connected to the aibox on the airbox intake end. If you remove the seat, you will see it attched to the airbox.

yea i hv tried tht on my pulsar it doesnt affect the pick up but the sound makes ur bike sound fast, its basically there to muffle the intake growl u must hve seen when u remove its longish continues inside the box, thts just to reduce the sound.it works best on the pulsar sounds really nice.tried it on a zma but the sound wasnt too good, snorkel is a rubber thingy u see when u remove ur pulsar seat exactly over the air box its glued into position but u can remove it by putting some effort, lemme clear this out removing tht causes no harm wtsoever.its perfectly safe and sounds awesome.u cud put the snorkel bck as in the case of the pulsar if u r fed up the intake growl after some time as i hv done

instead of tryin this if we remove the air filter i.e if we remove the foam type of thing and the metallic sheet from where the air is filtered>>>>>
there is a major difference in sound but is there any difference in performance as well

@koolsun216: Hey buddy, i too have a Pulsar. I am also thinking of taking off this snorkel, u sure na...that it wont effect the bike n its performance. Rest if i have any doubts ...i'll come back to get them clearified.....
This will only make a different sound and/or will it also improve the pick up/top end of the bike?

The ZMA doesnt sound nice it sounds as if its missing a lot so best is to keep it on in the ZMA.
