  • My P 220 not going beyond 125!!!!!! Help

    Hi Guys,

Its been a while since my bike is having issues with the top speed. Earlier I felt that as I had a looong ride of about 5500 kms to rajasthan this might be happening. I recently spent Rs 9000/- on the servicing and did the following repairs at sai service lower parel:
    1) Clutch plate and pressure plate replaced
    2) Chain sprocket replaced
    3) Aligned forks and changed the oil
    4) Changed the complete starter body
    5) Changed the front as well as the rear disk plates and pads
    6) Changed the cone set
    7) Got the CO setting done

Ok the above parts were replaced because they were worn out, and now the bike is completely as good as new though it has done 48000 kms in 2 years. I have also got it completely repainted a couple of months back.

Overall I have done everything possibile but still the bike refuses to go above 125 and I am just 54 kgs. Also got the block piston verified and the probiking engg said its perfect please help me am going nuts what to do!!!!!!!!

at 54 KG's may be you are too underweight for the bike and since the bike does not want you to fly it is limiting its top speed try with a pillion

BTW, you clocked 48K KMs. That is some good mileage for the engine.

You have changed the clutch plate kit and chain sprocket kit. Set the CO settings. Bore block & piston checked. Now a few questions.

Can you try and see if another P220 DTS-Fi can clock better acceleration and speed on the same road at the same time? That is to consider the external factors.

And here are a few internal factors that I can think off at this moment:

        > In comparison, what is the CO reading of your bike before completing 10K KMs and now at 48K KMs?

        > Tappets adjusted? Valve clearance checked?

        > What is the health of the cam chain & its gear/sprocket? All perfect? wouldn't it have worn a bit at least in 48K KMs?

        > When did you change the air filter?

        > Spark Plugs? When were they changed and what is their current status?

        > Tyres? What size, how much thread left, what grip levels?

        > Engine compression. Is it all right & no deviation from say a 10K KMs run engine?

        > Does your bike redline in 4th gear? At what speed?

        > What is the RPM when you hit 125 KMPH in 5th gear?

        .

          > In comparison, what is the CO reading of your bike before completing 10K KMs and now at 48K KMs?

more or less the same as it was earlier

          > Tappets adjusted? Valve clearance checked?

yes no tappet issue or sound

          > What is the health of the cam chain & its gear/sprocket? All perfect? wouldn't it have worn a bit at least in 48K KMs?

At around 45k i had checked the complete gearbox and engine parts as the bike was completely dismantled for repainting by sk bajaj. The service engg told me that he has changed the timing chain and the valves everything else looks fine

          > When did you change the air filter?

          2 days back

          > Spark Plugs? When were they changed and what is their current status?

had ngk iridium changed to stock two days back

          > Tyres? What size, how much thread left, what grip levels?

          3000 kms old zapper s 120/17 rear
9000 kms old IRC 100/17 front
          both have good thread left

          > Engine compression. Is it all right & no deviation from say a 10K KMs run engine?

This is something i doubt coz the intial boost which i used to get earlier in pick up is not somehow the engine feels sluggish

          > Does your bike redline in 4th gear? At what speed?

          yes at 110

          > What is the RPM when you hit 125 KMPH in 5th gear?

          will have to check

Also what i noticed is that after installing the new disk plates and pads the rear wheel is free but the front one is a bit jammed (not exactly jammed but not completely free) when i told this to the mech at sai service he said that as the plates and pads are new this is happening in a few days it will become free. Is this possible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot for taking the effort to help me !!!!! I love my bike and have a friend with a 220 dtsfi which has done 38000 kms and he is 60kgs and his bike manages 135 with ease so i feel even i should or shall i wait for the new parts in the bike to loosen up!!!!!!!!

If you think the disk pads are restricting the free movement of your front wheel.. try a small trick.. ride for some 5kms and stop- pour some water on the front and rear discs.. If too much vapour is released from either of your discs you can infer that the disc pads on that wheel is creating too much friction with disc which restricts motion..
If so ask your mech to adjust the caliper and pad setting.

i don't wish to offend you but as a bike grows 'old', the losses taking place in the moving parts increase due to increased friction caused by weathered parts..hence you feel the sluggishness and the low top speed
judging by the comparison b/w your and your friend's bike, i feel u ripped your bike a lot in its 'younger' times..
well that doesn't matter now, i can only advise you to change oil at 1500 kms to avoid fast erosion to moving parts such as gears etc..
If U haven't Seen GOD, U haven't gone fast enough

The next thing to get checked is the compression. Get a compression check done. And if any loss, then install new rings.

When you said that the engine was dismantled for painting, did they clean the head? the piston face? the intake and exhaust ports etc??

yes they did clean everything and i was thinking of changing the block and piston now will doing this eliminate all the issues as i ll have a brand new engine

Gearboxes last well over 1 lakh kms. It must be the front wheel issue. Have you checked the speedo for erroneous readings? I feel the bike's not old enough to lose its punch. Chain tension maybe?

Na the actual issue is i feel somehow the engine is generating all the power but its taking more effort and something is stopping the engine from revving freely will changing the block piston help!!!
