K & N Help Required in Pulsar 220

  • K & N Help Required in Pulsar 220

    Hi,
    First of all Happy New Year to all the members.
    I own a Pulsar 220 Fi, which has done 13000 kms. I would like to replace the stock air filter with K&N.
    I have checked the RC1060 and R1100.
    I need your valubale advice regarding which one should I go for get the maximum power from my bike.
    Also do I need to adjust the CO level after the fitting the K&N.
    What should be the CO level? Should I go for the company rated level, i.e., 2.5 without CAT CON.

      The R-1100 is the best suited for your bike. Just disconnect the battery terminals for about 10mins after installation & the ECU will adjust itself to the increased air flow.

        Ah this is something new to me . Can you explain how the ECU will adjust the air flow by itself . Just curious.

            yes go for R1100 but in my opinion if you want to use your bike for street then its ok but no for touring I am one who has suffered a lot due to K&N,my valve set gone,my piston ring + piston gone,engine oil change every 1/2 months of usage all this happen even though I have changed my jet to bigger size and proper setting from racing bike mechanic.NO TO K&N! if you are tourer you can increase punch by other methods too.

              All FI systems rely on sensors for specific parameters so that they can adjust the fuel quantity thats needs to be injected. Thats how they adjust themselves to engine speeds, loads, decreased oxygen levels at higher altitudes,etc.

                Thanks to everyone for your valuable suggestions...
                I will be using my bike for city riding only..
                Another thing I would like to ask is that, is it possible to remove the engine rpm restriction..coz in 220 Fi the rpm is restricted to 10200 rpm (approx)..cannot pull above that...

                  In an FI system fuel to be Injected is dependent on various parameters (few of which you mentioned) sent to the ECU by the sensors present but the ratio has to be set & it doesnt vary no matter what incase of an open loop FI.

                  Here if you are talking about the self-adjustment of AFR by the ECU I would like to correct you on this. It is not possible in the case of P220 FI as it is open loop FI where a Lambda sensor is absent & hence the AFR still remains the same & has to be adjusted manually using the diagnostic tool. Ex- P220 FI, R15.
                  For the self adjustment of AFR the FI system needs to be a closed loop one where it has extra sensors of Lambda, MAP & MAF. Ex- HH ZMR

                  I would not suggest you to go with the K&N. The reason being u dont have much scope to alter the AFR. Your bike would be running on the leaner side which is not good for the engine. U can try richening the mixture using the diagnostic tool. But u wont be to increase the fuel flow proportionally to the air flow & hence wont be able to extract the true potential of the K&N.
                  If you still wish to go with K&N i suggest go with R1060. R1100 has increased air-flow making the bike much more leaner. Hence highly not recommended.
                  & yes the CO MUST be adjusted.
                  You cannot change the rev-limiter as it is integrated in the ECU firmware & sadly P220 FI ECU is not re-mappable.
