Hello to all the good folk here
.
This is Sourav from Chennai.
I have a 3.5 year old Pulsar 150 DTS-i UG3. It's been smooth sailing since the time I bought it. Never faced any issues with it. Serviced at regular intervals at Bajaj and Castrol Bike Zone. So far the bike has done around 38k kilometers. Apart from the rear grab rail that's been changed to the split type from the P200, tyre upgrades, and stator upgrade to the Avengers unit and a 55/60W lamp from the Avenger, I've kept the bike pretty much stock.
Just a few days ago, the horn stopped working. Then the console light, telltale lights, started flickering. Sometimes, while driving, all the lights would go off, and then suddenly come back on. I had the wiring checked and it turns out that most of the cladding has worn off and the connectors are pretty knackered.
Now, I am thinking of changing the entire wiring kit of the bike. I have a small question though. Can the wiring kit from the new Pulsar 150/180 UG4 be put on my bike? And I am talking about the entire wiring kit, including the BCU.
The reason I want to upgrade to the new wiring kit is that I kinda suck at DIY jobs
. So rather than mod it myself to convert the whole thing from AC to DC, I would rather spend some more cash and get the new wiring kit from the UG4.
So, is it possible? If anyone has any pointers on this. it would be greatly appreciated
. Also, if anyone knows about the part numbers for the wiring kits, please do share that information. It would be a big help
Thanks to all who took time out to read this post of mine
Looking forward to hearing from someone.
Cheers!

If its possible for P200 then it is very much possible for a P150/P180 also.

^^ Thanks for the reply Shreeni
Much appreciated.
I had gone through the previous pages. Since there was no response from the guy who wanted to change the RR and the wiring harness, I decided to post my query
.
Anyhow. So, apart from the Wiring harness, BCU, and the Rectifier(this too i guess??) I guess that I will also need to change the Stator as the DC based new UG4 models will have a different unit than the AC based UG3 models. Is that correct?
I seriously doubt that I will be able to do any DIY jobs, which is why I am posting my query here :P. If someone can shed some more light on this matter, it will be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know the exact things that need to be changed. Will be getting this job done by Saturday or Monday.
Thanks again ya'll. Cheers!

Hmmm... If you go and catch hold of a good auto electrician then he will be able to sort out things at less cost. And I really don't think stator coil has to be changed. Some wiring manipulations here and there should do the job to feed to all DC rectifier i.e the new UG4 RR.Originally posted by Sourav View Post^^ Thanks for the reply Shreeni

Let Pulsar experts comment on this..

^^Sadly, I am not a local of Chennai. And people don't understand Hindi/English that much here. So, getting a jugaad job done from a local auto mech, is once again a no-no for me.
Besides, I love my bike
. It's never let me down. So I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for my peace of mind.
So, finally you say that the stator may not need to be changed. But everything else has to change right? The BCU? The wiring harness? The Rectifier?
If Pulsar experts have any ideas about the pricing of the above mentioned items, or if they would like to share a little of their ideas, it would be most welcome
Cheers!

Comparing the 220 which is all DC to 180UG3 which were AC, Stator Coil is different. In 220, there's not a separate coil dedicated to the head light.Originally posted by Sourav View Post^^ Thanks for the reply Shreeni

However, a good electrician can do some Jugaad, and can manage to use the current stator coil.Been There, Done That; Better!

^^Uff, you guys are confusing me
.
I just have a small question. If I take out the existing wiring harness, and the Rectifier, and the BCU, and the stator from my Pulsar 150 UG3, and replace the above mentioned parts with the parts from the new 150 UG4 model, that has a DC system, will it work?
Price is not a point of consideration here, and I am not looking for any jugaad work from any local mechanic.
Just a simple "Yes/No/I-don't-know" will suffice people
Thanks and Cheers!

If u've a thick wallet and no budgetary costraints, then everything is possible, even if u want to change the whole thing to P220, YesOriginally posted by Sourav View Post^^Uff, you guys are confusing me

Okay guys. I have been trying to get the whole thing done over the past few days. But, the Bajaj Service Center guys don't seem to like the idea that much. When I told them about my plan, they went berserk! They said "Why you want to change the wiring to UG4 saar??" I told them about the terrible condition of my existing wiring kit.
Somehow that didn't quite register with them. So when I told them that I would like to change the BCU, Wiring Harness, RR Unit, and the Stator, they said that changing those 4 components will not convert the electrical system to DC. They said that I would have to change the LCD console, the switch gear, the induction coils(???) and a whole lot of other things as well. When I disagreed, they said that changing the four components wont guarantee the conversion.
Anyways, I was not convinced about this whole thing. And, on top of it, the service engineer came up with a quotation for 13k for the conversion process
So for the time being, I've put the AC-to-DC conversion process on hold. Will see if I can figure out something from the previous pages on how to convert the existing wiring to a DC setup.
Do you guys think there's even a slim chance that changing those four components will convert the system into DC? Or will I have to change all the things that those guys said?
Any thoughts will be most welcome.
Cheers!

Saurav, we gave u some simple but econo mods, but then u said money is not a matter, now seeing the figures u got convinced that it mattersOriginally posted by Sourav View PostOkay guys. and u've decided to back off from the OEM full setup. As I stated earlier, if've a thick wallet u can surely go for the OEM setup which is not even worth too, else, u've to seek other econo options, each mod is making the warranty void, so it all at ur risk, that even applies if u change the whole thing in SC too thats why they r discouraging u. Once u change the neccessary things still u can have the DC setup. Pls refer the previous posts rather putting the same question again and back with new queries. Goodluck.

I can understand Bajaj's SVC apprehension about our mod, and ofcourse they won't guarantee it. However, I'm sure that there's no point of changing LCD or switch gear as even 220 shares the same setup as of other non-dc Pulsars.
But there's a case with Induction Coil or HT Coil as we know in Pulsars and CDI. But 2 No.s HT coil will just be around 300 bucks and CDI 800 bucks, even if you plan to change that later.
These two components are not necessary for converting to DC, however both of these components are different in DC and non-dc pulsars.
I would advise you to get hold of good mechanic rather than going to SVC. However to be absolutely sure, you can take a close look at a friends UG4, or even 220.Been There, Done That; Better!
