  • Question on RX100/135 electricals/wiring

Guys, just seeking your expert opinion on my Rx rebuild. Pls provide your inputs to help me w.r.t to changing to 12V wiring.

I'm plonking new electrical system into my Rx100; presently the magneto is 6V & I will be changing to 12V. So my questions are...
    1. I need to buy a Minda or equivalent 12V wiring kit right?
    2. I'm should be buying the magneto assy of Rx135 right?
    3. I should be buying rectifier of Rx135 right?
    4. If I don't get Rx135 original magneto assy, do I've any option of reusing or rewinding my existing 6V magneto assy to 12V?

CDI will be from RDD, so no issues on that; So pls let me know if I need to take care of anything else apart from the above?

    Thanks for any help.

I'm plonking new electrical system into my Rx100; presently the magneto is 6V & I will be changing to 12V. So my questions are...
      1. I need to buy a Minda or equivalent 12V wiring kit right?

      - yup, minda would do.

      2. I'm should be buying the magneto assy of Rx135 right?

      - easiest way to go about it.

      3. I should be buying rectifier of Rx135 right?

      - for the higher charge for the battery, yes.

      4. If I don't get Rx135 original magneto assy, do I've any option of reusing or rewinding my existing 6V magneto assy to 12V?

      - Slightly complicated, but can be done as well.

CDI will be from RDD, so no issues on that; So pls let me know if I need to take care of anything else apart from the above?

      - Just dont short anything.. hehe lol.. just kidding. Just make sure the wiring is routed properly, and everything is secured wherever possible. No cuts to be made, if something has to be connected, and is not connecting properly, get the right connector for it and then assemble it. Make sure that the socket of the switchgear matches the socket on the wiring harness.

      - Also buy new pilot lamp wires and holders, including for the neutral, highbeam and indicators. If possible, get LEDs installed in them, would look really bright and nice.

      - Get the neutral point cap alongwith it, its slightly difficult to slip on, but is worth the effort.

      - get the minda foot brake switch, and a good handbrake switch as well.

      Thanks for any help.

I have only one thing to add, don't rewind the 6V coil. Not recommended by many.

Apart from what jd has detailed, ask 'swingarm'. He has done extensive research on this matter.

Nitin, rear swing arm has become one of those rarest part; I've been asking him, say now little over 2 months now; so I need to keep waiting man; I'm planning to go to a different dealer today to ask for Rx135 swing arm & see if they have one.

Thanks a lot JD. I like to go in for LED's, are you saying to fit in the LED's instead of the bulbs, then I will need to change the holders & sockets right? Can you shed some light on this pls?

I'll go in only for Minda wirings, no more Lumax or Fiems; What is hand brake switch?

If the magneto & wiring are new & both for Rx135, they should match right? Or is there something that I need to take care of?

^^ its been my avatar since ive been posting online... never thought it signifies anything.. so why lie now!! hehe...

You can solder 12 V LEDs to the bulb holders, or install lower Voltage ones with a resistance in line. This will make the backlight white instead of yellow, and give the meter a nice bright feel. You can always experiment with the bulb and LED setup, it wont cost more than 20-30 bucks, but ive seen a LED install in a RX100 meter for back light, and the meter looks good.

              - If the magneto and wiring are for the same bike, they will match. The 135 wiring kit comes in two different types, once has a oil low warning light and the other one does not ( the oil sensor came in the RXZ, the 135 came without that ).

Ok, will go through some basic LED stuffs & learn it to do by myself instead of relying on someone or atleast get to know what needs to be done rather than blindly giving it to someone (I'm poor when it comes to electicity); But it sounds exciting to have a white bright backlight on the speedo console as it has always been poorly yellow lighted.

Oh!!! Yes, another question, all the present backlight glows on AC & I assume that LED's require a DC right? So should I take a separate line from rectifier or something like that?

                Thanks for the tip JD

I was talking about one of our members from Kolkatta 'swingarm' I think his name is Basu. Anyway, he has given a pretty detailed info on his thread.

Hmmm...Nitin, give me the link man, don't make me search all over - make my life lil easier

But I prefer sticking with stock swing arm than after market. What's your say?

For Electrical 6v -12v conversion what I did was

                      1. Coil rewinded and taken one more wiring from source coil.
                      2. Changed to AMCO 12v battery
                      3. Wiring kit is same as prev 6v
                      4. RR - KB100
                      5. Changed the bulb to 55/60 w

Initially Tail lamp main AC bulb gone. After 3 months yesterday battery was down and headlight high beam gone and low beam blinking.

                      What could be the problem?

Plan to install the RX135 12v system. Let me your feedback once you done successfully.

replace the wiring kit,RR,rotor&stator assembly with one from RX135/RXZ. that would be the perfect work to do.

                        OR

replace the wiring kit with one from RX135/RXZ. get a RDD 90/110 kit (RR,rotor&stator assembly included) A that would be even more perfect work...!!!.

I love to go in for the latter part ; but if I don't get that I'll stick to OE. BTW - what's RR, Rotor & Stator? Tks.

JD, its like one morning I wake up & suddenly the bulb glows - yes I got what you meant by the above (didn't have to google). Its actually simple & straight forward, except for one fact that if the LED fuses, I've to unsolder & replace the LED from the holder in the wiring harness. Right?

I'll go in for 12V LED than adding a resistor to step down the voltage

Correct me if I understood you right? You've a 6V wiring kit with 12V rectifier & Magneto; I wouldn't recommend this as personally I know the holders from the magneto will not match the wiring harness due to which there is numerous cut & join wiring that I personally don't like & that's precisely the reason I keep waiting & when waiting I'm learning

Yes..i guess thats reason there are some loose gaps in the wiring and my battery was down last week, not charging properly and horn was not working. Headlight bulb has gone fuse.Last night, Myself opened the headlight and changed the bulb with one I have already.
For the past five days battery will getting charged slightly. If I use indiactor one min the indicator will glow then battery go down. I thought RR is not working and thus battery was not charged. Excess current flow to Headlight and gone. so plan to change the entire Wiring system to RX135 12v system until yesterday.
Fortunatley I found that today my battery got charged normal and ROOTS horn working surprisingly.Reason I guess loose gaps..
So is it sufficient to change the WIRING Harness 12v Minda?

Originally posted by aargee View Post

You mean to say that they wont touch the coil. Only RR and wiring harness need to be changed to 12v?
If so, let me know YASS which will do this job best and how much it will come?
