  • How to detect worn out clutch

    Bike : P150 dtsi
    Milage : 56K

Clutch plates changed 10000 kms back, oil change regular. A lot of highway riding in top gear...@ 44 kms per day.

Mech says plates are wornout as it revs more than accelerating.

Unlike other puny bikes the kick does not slip on this bike when plates wear out.

Anyway to confirm replacement for clutchplates

P.S - Its a ported 150, tops out at 118kmph, sprints well too

If the revs rise faster than the bike is accelerating, that indicates a slipping clutch. It does not necessarily mean the clutch is worn. The only way to find out is to open the clutch. It is possible that the clutch springs are weak if they weren't replaced along with the clutch plates.

The kick start mechanism does not interact with the clutch in all Pulsars.

@reaperbabu: I don't have an answer to your question, but have a question to ask here..

@All: What is a slipper clutch (I think these days, all SBKs come with this)? Can one feel the diff. while riding a bike with slipper clutch vs. normal ones?

          My views on the YZF-R15 V2.0: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/198...tml#post699240

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

while riding a bike with slipper clutch, one may not notice any difference, but while de-accelerating it shows huge difference, the overall feeling is like a typical two-stroke (at high revs) less engine braking.

Sounds like a typical case of worn out clutch plates to me!

its possible that the clutch is worn out but only in 10000 kms, that also on a p 150,cant digest it,better to check in the following order...
1.try to adjust the clutch cable adjust.
2.inspect the cable and replace with a new one if the strings are torn,REMEMBER ONE OR TWO TORN STRINGS ALSO WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PULL THE CLUTCH FULLY.
                  3.open the side housing,take out the clutch assembly and inspect.-clutch plates/pressure plates/springs.
                  4.replace as needed.

well bro a slipper clutch does exactly the name suggests,it slips.
more over there are some super bikes[OR SUPERMONSTERS] which are having toooo much power in the engine and while you accelerate.same vigorous power will pull you back and as a result the bike looses the rear end some times results in a highsider or low sider.
the clever clutch simply slips that time to save the rider.
now the difference.....hmmmm i read that make s the the monster s a bit more docile.

                      Thanks Aryan...

All : The bike does rev more than accelerating, I guess only way out is to buy new plates, springs and just replace. Its returning low mileage as well.

Anyways to check springs for lost tension?

                      Thanks guys.
