Is that so? The e.oil recommended for Unicorn is 20w 40? In that case, how the Hero Honda people can recommend 10w 30 for the old Unicorn engine used in X- tream or Hunk? Just to increase power and leading to excessive wear?
      Move on.........

^^^ We've discussed that a lot in the Engine Oils thread.

        @Soumen
Honda sticks to 20W40. They use this oil for ALL their 2 wheelers.

For the same engines (hunk, cbz x, acheiver, pleasure) Hero Honda uses 10W30. They use this oil for ALL their 2 wheelers.

Beyond this, a lot of discussion went on in the above mentioned tread. Almost an year ago. Hope the 'ALL' part of my text tells you something about logistics

Hay, so what an be the effect on the engine where you are using 10W30, instead of 20W40?
Because the engine used in Hunk/Xtream, is the old engine of Honda Unicorn... yes, some modification done............so.... what is exactly the Hero Honda has planned? Excessive wear and extra power by using 10W30 in this topical climate???
            Please advice on that issue....!

                Hey guyz
can ne1 suggest what wud be the effect of mixing 800ml 20w40 + 400ml 10w30 (both valvoloine champ 4T) this winter for my unicorn .Through my 5 years sxperience with this bike ,I have realised that xw40 is a little heavy during winters in delhi ncr region for my unicorn ,and the bike doesn't warm up as quickly as it does during winters.
Currently using ZIC 4T 10w40 Fully Synthetic .Has done 4000+ Kms on this oil with 100-200ml topups done every 1000 km.Is that normal top-up frquency ?My rpm range never goes below 5000rpm and often reaches 9k mark almost everytime I ride it .
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

not recommended, stick to one grade, either 10w30 0r go for 15w40.And why are u using 1200ml engine oil,1litre is what is recommended,1200ml after complete engine dismantling.Excess oil can cause excess oil pressure hereby leading to gasket leakage.

Are you topping up because the oil level is low, or are you just topping up without seeing the level?

but 10w30 may be too risky for honda unicorn hence trying to average between w40 and w30 .
yeap I top-up only after measuring the level exactly the procedure mentioned in the manual .May be the Zic 4T is burning too much or may be my ripping riding style deserves it or may there is some other mechanical issue ?no idea. ne1 ne other suggestion please ?The bike has done 24000 kms and is in excellent peak power-form since I have joined xbhp .Also after draining engine oil overnight the bike definitely takes a litlle more then 1 ltr to reach the upper level mark on dip-stick.(according to the manual procedure)

Do you ever mix tea and coffee and have it,same goes to engine oils,10w40 or 15w40 should do the job, even for extreme lower temperatures. The very purpose of a multigrade oil is to serve during extreme weather conditions.

With no offence !the e.g of tea coffee is not appropriate .They belong to different breeds ,whereas 10w30 and 20w40 has everything same except the number of viscosity modifiers .neways I mixed the above two with 500ml and 600ml(approx) respectively and has done 100 kms ride since then ,and i must say the bike never felt so responsive .The bike character as a whole has changed ,and once you ride with this combination ,you will never go for straight 20w40 .ne freaks who are gonna try this plz share ur results as its really a miracle .However ,the combi needs to be tested for atleast 1500 kms for full-fledged results .Will keep u guys up-to-date

dere r some disadvantages of not going to ASS people
If i wud not have gone their today ,i wud not know that even HONDA has started putting 10w30 oil for winters in all its product range .I just saw a grey bottle of Honda Genuine oil and grabbed it to read if only the color is different or is it semi-synthetic kind-off .But then was shocked when read that its a 10w30 oil .I enquired the supervisor there .He said that due to increased cold start problems ,honda has started a new engine oil .Although I never had cold start problems during extreme winters while using 20w40 .And now I feel If I could have poured 10w30 for this winter .I don't know why every guy on xbhp says just stick to Xw40 for unicorn throughout the year ?
