Re: Honda unicorn recommended engine oil grade

Hi guys need help.
I was using Honda 10w30 FSynthetic oil on my almost 2year old Unicorn from the day it has passed 12k on the odo, and now odo reads 34k. While using FS oil I used to ride hard and change it every 3K kms. But hereafter my dad will be using it in slow speeds, so need to know whether there will be any issues if I am changing the oil back to the normal unicorn oil.
Please advice soon as the service date is approaching.

If your bike has clocked more than 10k kms in odo.then its OK to use motul 7100 10W40. Or else stick with manufacturer recommended oil grade or use other mineral or semi synthetic oils with 10W40 or 20W40. The number before "W" is not having so much significance.

My personal observation :

Stick to the normal grade and for honda engines use shell advance oil. The throttle response will be great and so will be the engine smoothness.

The number before the 'W' is the 'cold/lowest' viscosity rating of the oil, Hence it has a lot of significance, especially based on the type of climate the bike runs in. The lower the number, the easier the engine will turn over when starting in cold climates. If it had no much significance manufacturers/users would start using single rated engine oils.

vRide, shifting to mineral oil(oil used at svc) will not effect the engine in a negative way. The only issue shall be shorter oil change interval as mineral oil oxidises faster. I would rather suggest you stick to semi-synthetic oil within the recommended grade, tht way your oil change intervals shall not be too short nor shall it be an overkill price wise
