The temple in the pic is Mukteshwar Temple.I think you are referring to Lingaraj Temple.

                              WoW!!! Super pics!

I had a doubt about precisely this kindda photos!

I want to click moving objects (stage performances,People walking the street, etc) in low light.

I have a ultrazoom cam with me for a few days and wanted to learn a few things.

Please correct me where ever I am wrong.

The "F" value as in F2.8 - 8.0 is a aperture size, with the aperture size being inversely related the the "F" number. So I low light I should ideally have a smaller "F" number, is this correct?

As zoom in does the minimum value of the "F" number increase? Its happening in this camera, as I zoom in a bit I am not able to choose a lower "F" number like F2.8. Is this common across all cameras? Or is a unique feature of the cam I am using? Reason for asking this question is, I am thinking about a scenario where I am at the back of a hall and want to zoom in a bit to take pics of the performance on the stage, as the the "F" number has increased I need to increase exposure time to compensate for that, which results in blurry movement!!!!

Coming back to my orignal question, what all to keep in mind while clicking moving objects in low light conditions?

**Sorry of the nooby questions, but cudn't think of a better place to ask this!!!**

                              • Thanks

Yes. Smaller f-number means more light is allowed. SO yes, smaller F-stop in low light.

Yes. As you zoom in, the minimum f-stop possible increases. This is one of the major disadvantages with point and shoot cameras. This happens for SLR lenses also, but there are many "fast" lenses, which maintain a constant minimum f-number throughout their zoom range. These lenses understandably are more expensive and contain more glass. Some of the popular ones are Canon 70-200 f/4 (or the f/2.8), the Tamron 17-50 and 28-75 f/2.8 etc.

The only way to do any kind of nonblurry photography given a point and shoot is to bump up your ISO speed. It will result in noisier photos, but at least they can be fixed to some extent through PP noise removal. Superzooms these days allow shooting in "RAW". That's what you should use as it gives more control over noise reduction than JPEGs.

The only way to get non-blurry pictures in low light is to bump up your ISO. Remember, image stabilisation compensates for the photographer's movements/shake, not for the subject's movement.
