• Scimitar Transition jacket - Review

Before you think why I chose an unknown jacket let me tell you I tried every possible jacket and nothing fit me. I have an odd measuring.

Jackets I tried
Rjays - xs
Was the lightest of the lot I tried, didn't feel Ohk to me. Xs Still didn't fit me especially shoulder armor.

Spartan all models - s
Helios is the best and costliest, very heavy. The arm adjusters are of no use and the shoulder armors didn't stay because of bad fit. Any model in spartan didn't fit.

Cramster all models - s
Close enough fit, arms were loose and the armor won't stay. The adjusters didn't help.

Shield - s
Didn't like the jacket's design, it is an India make by velavan merchandise, Chennai. At least that's what the store manager said. It was pretty good in terms of quality for 7.2k.

Mototech contour - m
The most favorite jacket of mine among the list. It is made of waxed cotton and mesh. Looks like a casual jacket. But It didn't have velcro strap at the cuff for adjustment, had a flimsy woolen bedsheet like thermal liner. Hard to maintain. Couldn't try size s in it though.

Zeus Arion - s
didn't like the quality of the jacket at all, and didn't fit me anyway.

Scimitar all models - s
The best fit, armors cling on to my bones like anything. I'm thin and just 52kgs. :P

The solus is very light weight jacket and it's for daily city commuting. It can't be used as a touring jacket. Armors are pathetic.

The strike is a Cordura jacket but I wanted a mesh so just ignored it. That too was a perfect fit. Quality was ohk.

Scimitar Transition is the model I chose.
Price: 5449Rs comes with 6 months warranty.

I rode back to Dindugal from Chennai 400kms by night and from Dindugal to Theni 80kms the next afternoon. After the 500kms test ride I didn't feel anything bad about the jacket.

Pros:
# Light weight
# Simple design
# Pakka fit
# Comes with both thermal and rain liner (rain liner is flimsy not tested yet)
# Thermal liner does its job well and has a extra pocket as well
# Standard ykk zippers
# cuff straps, waist straps with velcro for adjustment.
# comes with button adjustment for arms and chest
# CE rated armors

Cons:
# no reflector pipings or of any sort
# Rain liner is flimsy
# back protector is just a foam pad and so needs an upgrade
# no removable collar padding
# no pockets/hook for keys
# only 3 pockets (excluding the one in thermal liner)
# no ear phone jack hole

I did like the design and was looking for reviews. But no reviews were available and people were suggesting to buy tried and tested product for that money. I had no choice when it comes to fit. Didn't really worry about the armors because it can be upgraded. A jacket with low rated armors and perfect fit is better than jacket with high rated armors and loose fit. The only jacket I feel I should have tried is the Adv breed but it was not available in chennai.

Any ways as of now I bought this, I will update with a long term review after 6 months.

Even im 52 n 5.6'
Its very difficult to find a proper fit for our size its almost like impossible..
I just got mad because of this and bought RE Continental GT n its worst,
If you are planning to try RE's its just a waste of time.!!

Haha.. Sell it in OLX :P The only product that I liked from RE gear collection was the genuine leather boots which costs a whooping 8k.

I don't know abt the long term worth of the Scimitar but from the looks and the build its not inferior to any other jackets that are available in the market. So I'm completely satisfied. Also try the ADV breed, heard it's a slim fit jacket. That's the only thing I couldn't try on.

I too got this one from Chopra Automobiles, Karol Bagh for 5200. Also got the back protector replaced with a Tornado Pro's since it didn't mention CE.

Very happy with it at this price, specially the fit is perfect. Agree with sman999 on all points, thanks for a great review.

Congrats Bro! You are welcome. It costed me only 4600. I'm not sure if there was a price hike. How much did the back protector cost u?

Scimitar Transition jacket - Review

@sman999Thanks for the review. I'm extremely slim too and was looking for reviews by people who share my figure.

By the way did you try Rynox jackets too?

And what about gloves? Do the small size gloves of most manufacturers fit properly?

And on the online website of spartangear, the Scimitar jackets seem to start from the Medium size.

Fortunately didn't have to pay anything extra. May be because I spent a lot of time there trying jackets and they just wanted to close the deal

Yeah I tried Rynox. They were quite good but the armors didn't stay fit as they are supposed to. Else it was a good fit.

My palm size is bigger I use a size M cramster twister. It fits me well. Also used a scorpion klaw 2 size M but unfortunately I lost them.

Online shows M cuz they might not have stock or they don't care much cuz most Ppl go there, try and buy. They have S. Call them to check if they have, go there and try. You won't be disappointed. [emoji4]

All the best!

I would recommend you to go for the Rynox Tornado Pro Jacket. The T-Pro has a much aggressive fit as compared to any jackets out there and plus the Knox Armors + Reissa waterproofing+ CE Back.
The Air GT on the contrary is a less aggressive. I was a skinny fellow too (but now I am not, thanks to some rigorous work outs :P). Though the Air GT was a very good fit for me. Just that when you try the jacket make sure you tighten both the arm buttons and stretch your arm (just like you would to reach the handle bar while you ride).

Also if Thermal liner is not an important criteria (since I read you are from Goa), I would highly recommend you to go for the Asphalt Jacket-M size, as you get Knox armors under 6.5k and it is amazingly light in weight thus perfect for city rides. The M size of Asphalt is as good as the S size of Air GT.

Generally a riding jacket (aimed at protection) should by hygiene have reflective piping/tape/etc to ensure higher visibility during night rides, as it adds to your safety also.
I have been personally using the Air GT Jacket and have faced no problem with it yet, only the rain liner is water-resistant and not water-proof is what Rynox people told me directly (which again was a good part by the brand to be upfront and not provide false commitments).

They said you would get much better water-proofing with the Tornado pro.

Invest in protection (Armors) more than the small features, here and there.

I hadn't considered Rynox Asphalt at all cause there was no small size, will make sure to try it too! Thanks man.

EDIT: Can you recommend gloves too? They are just way too many options! Budget is 2k. Will be used in city only and may be worn without the jacket sometimes, so I may have to go for short gloves? Also my palms sweat, so is it risky to go for leather gloves considering that they are likely to get damaged due to sweat/rain? Rampage Pro gloves seem to be made mostly of mesh.
