      Absolutely right about bikes running lean at certain rpms. And hence all motorcycles suffer from this problem.
      Umm, a free flow filter might actually make the bike run more leaner as more air to goof things up I guess. But that's me just putting two and two together. If there was the option of a dyno that would have helped but then we don't have them or do we? I don't know.
      Like I said the PC5 is good as long as you know what you doing. Get the auto tune module as well. It will help further.

        Exactly my thought. I thought the same, more air means more lean. But wouldn't ECU kick in to inject more fuel? Sorry if that sounds stupid. Anyways, this weekend I am installing Pipercross and PCV.

        This is what Dynojet had to say about my issue, I am hoping thats not the case.

          I guess the ECU should rectify the problem. But the thing is the map you have is a generically derived by the manufacturer. So the values are set irrespective of the conditions you ride or the quality of fuel you have.
          To make changes to that you would need something like a PC5 and auto tune to make those minute and necessary changes in every cell. So as to make the bike run richer in lower gears etc.

          About what the Dynojet guys have written i wouldn't be able to comment on that. You will probably need to speak to guys at Kawasaki and figure how it works. Don't have a clue there.

            Hey guys I like to know the average expense on service n all , on the er6f, read else where benelli's average cost is around 6k, I have shortlisted primarily 4 bikes as my next bike 1)ninja650r,2)benelli 600i, 3)CBR 650f, 4)z800. There is considerable price difference from the former 2 and latter 2 but I'm jus kept them as options, I have the immediate option of picking up a 2nd hand ninja from a friend, soo like to know the over expenditure on service, cheers!

                    Hello Friends,

                    Facing starting problem with my 650 recently in the cold weather of north. Also earlier rpms used to go up to 15-1600 straight away but now it takes time to build up.
                    Video of start up.



                    Anyone having any idea what can be wrong.

                        Hello Guys!! A belated Happy New Year!!! It has been almost 2 months and 4600 KMs since I got my 2015 colour edition (one with Green rear suspension) Ninja 650. To begin with I had a Ninja 300 before my 650, and like any bikes I had owned in the past, my 300 was customised too to my taste and requirements. However, one fine sunny day in November, I had a never before urge to upgrade to a bigger bike (I am an impulsive buyer, the urge is like an itch). The reasons with which I tried to convince myself were:

                        1. I am on the wrong side of 30, and I can already feel a lot of pain on a trip as small as 150 KMs on the 300. How am I supposed to tour the country now
                        2. My wife was getting impatient with my frequent rides and wanted to ride along, but there is no space for a pillion on the 300, and I love my wife very much. Now I need a bike with a good pillion seat and more power to compensate for her weight

                        Then what, I roamed around Triumph and Kawasaki showroom in Mumbai trying out everything from Bonneville to Z800 to Benelli before landing in Vashi KTM showroom to have a look at the Ninja 650. It wasn't my first choice, however, given my limited budget of 6 lacs, Ninja 650 ticked all the right boxes. Atleast it seemed like it did. Completed the formalities and I got a fresh piece dispatched from the factory and delivered in a week (atleast this is what the Showroom manager said )

                        650 in its 2015 colour looked great. It looks tall and big. Gets noticed every where and you become an instant celebrity wherever you go. I am used to this having owned a Green Ninja 300 earlier.

                        I was impressed by the torquey and powerful nature of this motor. I was furthermore impressed with the way she achieves speeds effortlessly. You do 100 Km/hr at as low as 4500 rpm, 6000 rpm sees 130 Km/hr and 10,000 rpm takes you to 200 Km/hr.

                        However, I also commute on my bike. I dont like to own multiple bikes, one bike should do all. I had some problem initially adjusting to the 200+ Kg weight smooth throttle, smoother clutch, slick gearbox initially in the traffic. I tried to do munch as many kilometers as possible to get used to the weight, power delivery, throttle response and other things. Thus in the process I completed 1000 Kms in just under a week and was at the service centers door-step for my 1st service. Oil, Oil filter replaced, the process of adapting continued. Yes, there were moments when I was frustrated and like a new marriage where you are in doubt if you are with the right partner, I was constantly doubting my decision of getting the 650.

                        But as days passed, I got used to it, and started loving her more. In under a month I covered 3000 Kms with frequent trips to Lonavala, Charoti and other destinations near Mumbai.

                        And last week of December I went on the first long tour to Kankavali and Goa on my 650. It was a 1300 KMs round trip covering 4 days with places like Malvan, Tarkarli, Calangute. I had lot of fun on the ride. I was amazed at how fresh I arrived at Kankavali from Mumbai (400 Kms ride). It seemed like I could continue riding all the way to Bangalore. This was a new experience coming from Ninja 300, Duke 200, Pulsar 220. Add to that impressive fuel economy of 25 to 28 kmpl. She attains speeds real quick, is fun to weave through traffic and the stability on highways is awesome.

                        Today while I complete 2 months and 4600 Kms of ownership it feels fantastic. I no longer doubt my choice. And this is why I decided to go ahead with the mods on my 650 like my earlier bikes. The list of mods include:

                        1. Metzeler's (stock size, M7 at the rear and M5 at the front)
                        2. Ohlins rear suspension
                        3. PZRacing Gear indicator
                        4. Light weight Aluminium rear sprocket
                        5. TechSpec tank pads and knee grips
                        6. Spider handle grips

                        While I am truly sorry for the long write up, I will let the below pics speak up for themselves

                          Could be any of the following-
                          1. Poor choice of engine oil
                          2. Carbon settlement on headers, injection unit requiring a clean up
                          3. Weak battery
                          4. Battery Alternator not charging battery properly or supplying current to the machine (not enough current being supplied)
                          5. Weak starter motor

                          Ask them for a thorough check up !!!

                              Hi, I am not that good when it comes to writing or explaining technical matters related to bikes. I am more of "seat of the pants" kind of rider. However, I will try to explain, I am not sure if you will get your answer.

                              The thing that made me change the sprocket, is of course the weight. It is very light. There is considerable difference in weight between the stock sprocket and the aluminium one I put. Due to this, when I release the throttle, the response is more immediate. The minimal lag that you feel between wristing of throttle and movement of rear tyre is almost 0 in my case. I get wheelspins all the way up till 4th gear if I am not careful with the throttle.

                              I had also installed similar light weight sprocket on my 300, but in Titanium, and was more than happy, hence we replicated the same on my 650, but using aluminium this time, as titanium wasn't available.

                              Anyways, if you want to know more, I suggest you get in touch with Vikram from Motozone. He has immense knowledge and can give you the kind of answer you are expecting. Me trying to explain further might be a case of Chinese whispers..
