Congratulations fortysix. Your thoughts mirror mine on the 650. I have contemplated many times over the last few months to get the 390 booking upgraded to the 650 but frankly, this new "black" face really gets my goat! Just can't digest its looks.
Since you are in Gurgaon, could you share the following
    1. Final Cost breakup
    2. Finance and details if any.
    3. Waiting time. (Ravi quotes 2 months generally)

Thanks to both of you. Yes waiting for the weather to clear up a bit so i can do the run in quickly. I am sure it will make for a fabulous tourer.

Mik: It is not that bad looking in flesh. I mean it is no zx 10r or italian but over all it looks trim and tucked, but it is a heavy and big bike.

Everything included it costed me 5.54 on road. Add another 800 bucks for an extra grab rail handle.

I did not get it financed.

I got it in around one month. I was told i will get it by month end but got the call on 16th august only.

Any other query let me know. Or i will keep posting my impressions as and when i add miles and not be too lazy to write about it. Anything specific you can PM me.

      Cheers.

I was hoping that the 2014 Ninja 650 (unveiled yesterday) would lose the black face. Not to be! Now, even the tank has gone black!

This has now seriously lost that Ninja appeal. Maybe they are not bothered about going green for their Sports tourer segment and only the race track ones are getting the lime green treatment

              • Ninja 650 - The green mean machine

As kid I used to have this beautiful poster of a super bike(Ducati) on the wall of my room, I would admire it everyday by giving it a long stare thinking that some fine day I will get a chance just to touch it. Here I am after some 15-20 years, seeing my dream turning in to reality.
Surely its a feeling which can not be described, but I am sure the fellas here can understand it better than anyone else.

Initially it was really tough to convince family, everyone had one question "Why are you buying a bike ?" go and get the best car you can afford no bikes "Sorry!!"
But after doing many rounds of emotional blackmails, I finally got everyone convinced and now I am sure everyone is as excited as me to see the green beauty.

Some pics my wifey took using her phone at the time of bike delivery, many more to come once I get all the protective stuff installed and get that hideous sari stand out.

                Buying experience:-

I took the delivery from CP KTM store, and the whole buying experience was fantastic. Initially I was told that there is a wait of 90days, but after my persistent enquiries I was informed that my bike is on its way from Pune just 2 weeks after the booking. 27th Sep I finally got delivery which was amazingingly fast comparing to the initial wait time.

                Riding experience:-

I have never seen Ninja 650 in flesh and forget about riding it, it was just all the awesome reviews and post of x-bhp which helped me in deciding on 650. It was roughly after 5 years I was about to ride a bike and that also 650. I knew that it is a powerful machine but to sheer experience that power was out of this world experience. Coming from 150cc CBZ to 650 Ninja was a transformation which was unimaginable. Riding the green machine from CP to Noida was one hell of a experience. It is so powerful that the first time I twisted the throttle I somehow got a feeling that the bike will run away leaving me behind. Then those slick gear changes were again unrealistic, I didn't realise on which gear I was running her, the lower end torque is unbelievable. You just don't feel the need to change the gear. Riding posture is fantastic, never felt tired even with a huge backpack on me.

Then there were some very embarrassing moments, starting from the petrol pump guys asking about the price and usual "Kitna degi". At one of the red light, I stopped adjacent to a bus with school kids. Within few seconds all the kids were on the windows shouting " Ninja..Ninja..Ninja". It was embarrassing, but somehow I was liking it aswell. I am sure as a kid I would have been also on the same window and doing the same chanting.
After reaching my office I parked it in Car parking and left, the guards came running behind me "Sir ji aap bike car parking main nahi khadi kar sakte" I asked have you seen the bike " Nahi Sir" I told them go and see it. And when I came back to parking after half n hour with my colleagues, all the guards of the building were around it with my office boys surrounding her. One of the guards said " Sir ji aap bike yahi khadi kare, apki bike car se jada badi hain"

                Accessories already bought:-
R&G Radiator Guard [Yet to be installed]
R&G frame sliders [Yet to be installed]
                Tourmaster Elite Motorcycle Cover Black

Looking out for (which I would probably buy from my upcoming US trip) :-
                Nice tankpad
2012 Ninja OEM Decals, the ones on 2013 seems funny to me
                Nexx XR1R Carbon helmet
                Xena disc brake alarm
Gear indicator (I was just not able to get in to the right gears)
Some high quality riding gear ( Alpinestar)

Few Questions for the Guru's :-

                1. I tanked her up with Speed petrol, but KTM guys told me to fill her with normal petrol. So what's your opinion on this ?
                2. Would getting a gear indicator would violate the warranty ?
                3. I want that heavy throaty sound of typical big super bikes, please some options on that and how to select the best for me ?

I am very lazy lad, I know that for sure(Wifey always keeps on complaining) and that is the reason for my silence here. But hopefully I will change now and will be more active here.

I want to thank all the fellow X-BHPians, who have unknowing helped me lot. The amount of information I was able to grasp from here has been exceptional and has been one of the important reason for me on deciding to go back on riding bikes after 5-6 years.

Thank a lot to you guys, it would have never happened without your contribution.

Hi puneet. Congratulations for the bike!
I have fixed a few speed - rpm marks to check my gears. For example 4000 rpm in sixth gear comes at 90km/hr.
I have installed yoshimura exhaust and power commander 5 for ecu management. You need to make a few modifications to the bike for proper settings. I have also removed the baffle and its very loud now. Miss the stock exhaust sometimes😄.

Thanks Bro, I am still getting used to the awesome power this beast delivers, even though I haven't pushed her till now because of"Break-in" but still when ever I her a sudden twist of throttle she jumps to life. Awesome is the word which comes to mind.

I got the radiator guard, original R&G for Rs. 5000 incl taxes from http://www.performanceracing.in/ shipping cost was additional. You can directly email them and enquire about your requirement. The guys there are really helpful.

Thanks for the advice bro, I am still trying to figure out the correct gears changes. I am still confused about buying the exhaust as this is definitely a expensive modification, Iam looking for KAWASAKI - Versys 650 - 13- but just want to hear the sound in person to be sure.

Thanks Bro. Excuses are highly customized and are not guaranteed to work with everyone

I am 5' 11" and really don't have any problem with the height of the bike, in that particular photo I was manoeuvring the bike out of the cramped CP passage way. And also the bike is heavy to move when in neutral, and harder when you are on it.

Ahh! I got it. Actually I was at KTM CP on 25th September(Evening) and this bike(yours) was there. I asked the showroom guy, "How long is the waiting period for Ninja 650 if I'm not going to finance the bike?". And his reply was, "We've just received a 650 after months, you can have it right away. No waiting period". Just wondering if I had permissions from parents to buy this beauty on that day they would have stalled your delivery. *feels jealous*
                              Anyways, Congrats again Ride safe.

Actually my booking was No. 2 in Delhi and while doing the booking I was told by the Bagga Link KarolBagh manager that they will be ordering 5 bike in a lot (they have I think 4 showrooms in NCR) so I can expect my bike soon.
Just to let you know the bike which KTM guy might be referring to you is still standing at the display of KarolBagh showroom, if your parents are convinced you can go and get one for yourself today itself.
