Ninja 650R - Ownership Thread

Today i went to Goa Kawasaki showroom and got quote for Ninja 650 as below

Ex 5,33,000
RTO 1,14,310
Insurance 18690

On Road : 6,66,000

I feel RTO Charges are way to high , when i probed with the sales guy i was told it is inclusive of Handling charges , inspection charges ,Transport insurance charges etc but was never informed what Percentage was RTO charges !! , Anyone who recently brought Ninja 650 from any other place let me know what was their on road price and why Kawasaki doesn't have uniform Ex-showroom rate like many other companies who have introduced it after GST ??

RTO charges should be 9 percent of ex showroom cost. Or maybe 10 at max.
App and TG are at 12 percent. Bangalore at 18 percent I guess. A quick google search should provide all info.

I visited RTO Goa website and their is no mention about RTO Charges and no clarity also on how much it is for Super-bikes , I expected it to be cheaper then Pune for Goa but it is more 30+ expensive in Goa then in Pune .

I visited RTO Goa website and their is no mention about RTO Charges and no clarity also on how much it is for Super-bikes , I expected it to be cheaper then Pune for Goa but it is more 30+ expensive in Goa then in Pune .

I also have asked for a split up of the RTO fees at ANZEN Mumbaifor the 2018 Ninja 650 KRT. I dont believe the customer should pay for shipping and handling fees. If you dont have something in your store how are you selling it to me! And then charging me to get it to your store?! RTO fees should included just that - whatever is passed along to the RTO.

I had a few more questions:

1. ANZEN is offering something called the “ANZEN Glass coating” for Rs. 9900. I am told this is a multi-layer “ceramic” coat for paint protection. It adds 0.3mm thick layer over the paint and all plastics. I believe its applied as a spray on which later solidifies (?). This lasts 3-5 years. Can someone please comment on this and if the 3M paint protection is a better/equally effective option and if it is easier on the wallet.

2. ANZEN is offering following R&G safety accessories bundle for Rs. 26000. Is this reasonable.
a. Frame sliders
b. Swing Arm spool
c. Front axle sliders
d. Radiator guard
e. Tank pad
f. Paddock stand

3. ANZEN is offering a service plan for Rs. 27500 which includes 5 services (including the first service @1000km) and is valid for 2 years. Is this worth buying or its better to pay as you go.

a. Frame sliders
b. Swing Arm spool
c. Front axle sliders
d. Radiator guard
e. Tank pad
f. Paddock stand

3. ANZEN is offering a service plan for Rs. 27500 which includes 5 services (including the first service @1000km) and is valid for 2 years. Is this worth buying or its better to pay as you go.

Let’s break one at a time.
If are a diy person, try to buy the ceramic coating product from amazon.com. It costs less than 1000. With shipping, it could cost 2k max.
Application is easy. Check YouTube.

The service plan sounds okay. What are they covering in it is important. Are they giving synthetic oil or regular mineral oil in it?? Also do they cover chain sprockets/ brake pads and other stuff in this? If yes then you can go for it. If they don’t cover any thing other than oil and filters and labor, it’s waste. Looks like it’s dealer offer and not from Kawasaki. So you are stuck with same dealer for service. No touring when your bike is close to service.

Safety accessories bundle is from R&G. (At least thats what I am told; nothing in writing yet). I checked the R&G website itself and added all those items plus a downpipe grille, a kickstand shoe and a top yoke protector (not really needed but is around Rs.900) and took off the paddock stand; and the total came to be almost exactly the same - Rs. 26000 (inclusive of shipping from the UK). The 3 additional items were Rs. 8700 so I guess the difference is around Rs. 5000 buying direct from R&G. (Paddock stand / packjack is around Rs 3000-4000 in India)

EvotechUK has similarly priced items as well.

The ceramic coating is like applying cream to your bike and then rubbing it off. Nothing complex in it at all.
Those so called professional applicators don’t actually use true ceramic coating at all. They use locally made cheap stuff. You can buy one bottle for 2k and apply to your bike and car. Or you can use it on your bike 3 to 4 times in future.

Accessories, you decide bud. Check Thailand websites. I have seen many procuring from there. If you are not constrained by cash, you can go ahead.

If they are not including sprockets and brakes pads then, it’s not worth. Oil costs 2.5k. Motul. Total 12.5k for fully synthetic oil. I don’t think filters cost more than 500 each. Dealers often inflate labor costs and try to sell these kinds of packages. Check and decide bud.

KRT edition is expensive than regular version.
Go for regular version. Because procuring krt fairings might be difficult in future.
Try to skip all accessories and additional packages while buying the bike.
Just buy bike and pay rto charge and insurance now.

Once you buy the bike. After covering 200 odd kms, sit down and think what all accessories are needed. Buy those or buy their accessories pack.

If you want their service packages. Buy that too.
Buying all at one go confuses everyone.

Concentrate on ex showroom cost + rto charge + insurance only for now. If they say rto charge is some xxx rupees, check rto slips too to double confirm the same. Kawasaki dealers are known for these kind of cheap tricks.

It’s December. I think you should get some good discount too. Ask for that. It should be around 40 odd thousand. Premium bikes don’t sell that much. Wouldn’t be surprised if you can get more on these.

I got quote of 533000 ex and 114310 as RTO charges which roughly calculates around 21.45 % which i believe also factors in additional charges they had mentioned so around 7710 goes into their pocket .

Even i am planning to buy only with flame sliders at first and procure other accessories from abroad since i have plans to visit Malaysia and Some Asian countries in 2018 from where other protection kit can be procured at cheaper rate . I am planning for 2018 since i usually don't buy at end of year even if i get good discount but my finance have taken a back seat due to some personnel issue i am waiting for N400 price to out to weight both option and take a final call after a showroom visit and if possible a TD .

Prices won’t go up anymore. Already India has the highest taxes in the world.
If they increase prices or taxes, the whole premium bikes companies can close their shop in India. We don’t earn in dollars or euros. Expecting us to pay in dollars or euros, will fend off those minuscule buyers too. It will close those industries permanently.

Ninja 400 is brand new. Not sure what its prices be. If it is sold at 3lakh, would make an interesting consideration. Kawasaki started manufacturing in India, so they can sell around rc390 costs. Because both retail at same rate in other markets.

You are clear on frame sliders. If you are this clear, you can buy. Try to avoid stuff which you are not clear on.

Try to question on rto charges.

Just for information, what is the AH of battery that the 650 uses? All motorcycle batteries are 12 volts, I'm more concerned about the Amps.

Adding my 2 cents about ceramic coating. I did a research for one of my friend. I would say, frankly every one is over charging that for now. The key points I understood is given below,

* It won't last many years, if you take care, the actual life is 1+ year
* The actual solution is not so expensive, the process only making it complex.
* Bike needed a neat cleaning and surface adjustment prior to the coating, this is a long process considering your bike paint condition.
* Once the glass coat applied it's need 10-12 hours to settle down, any mistakes happened at this stage will be like a stamp mark on the paint. So definitely they need a paint booth or something where they can leave bike after the glass coating.
* This is not a permanent solution, so similar like tufflon coating you need a maintenance process to follow.

Just for information, what is the AH of battery that the 650 uses? All motorcycle batteries are 12 volts, I'm more concerned about the Amps.
