I get it changed from a local mechanic. Just buy oil filter from SVC. It costs Rs. 40. And you need to specify the right amount of oil to be filled. It's 850 ml without changing oil filter and 950ml for changing oil filter. Change filter once in 5000km.

sure, but can you plz explain why acceleration will be sluggish for oils above W40?. i mean what does the temparature rating ( W40 means the max optimal operating temp of the oil right? ) of an oil has to do with performance?. say for example, Motul 7100 4T which is a fully-synthetic oil comes with both 10W40 and 10W50 grades. 10W50 is easily the better oil since it has a more wider operating range right?. Is it so?. Or am I wrong?.

W50 oils are quite thick and so the engine needs to work harder. The oil may not flow as freely as W40 oils.

Suzuki recommends 10w40 viscosity for gixxer as per user manual. Viscosity varies from bike to bike as per manufacturer. You can go through user manual for more information.

You are absolutely right. xW50 will never affect acceleration, as you have rightly said "W50 is the viscosity of the oil at max optimal operating temp".

Say in case you are say running on 20Wx or 20Wx would have affect on acceleration when actually 10Wx was recommended, as 20Wx would be thicker than say 10Wx or 15Wx. So to summarize 10W50 or even a 15W50 would not affect the acceleration where as 20W50 might, may be slight to moderate difference. Currently my friend's sf is running on 5100 15W50 and runs like charm. With Bassy exhaust note!

Somebody here in xbhp, infact is running on 20w50 and reported the performance was good too.

Hi,
I am new to xbhp.com and am planning to buy my 1st bike


Mind is oscillating between Gixxer and Hornet


My priorities are
1.Performance(Mostly city Riding (ie) 30kmph-60kmph)
2.Mileage
3.Durability (Including Less maintenance)
4.Looks (In my personal view Hornet looks better)
5.Handling (Since its city ride most of the time need to face lots of traffic)


Is there any issue in ground clearence
How comfortable is pillion seat
Any rusting problem


Mainly suggest which is better for city ride.

Performance is real good.
Mileage in city varies from 45-50.(depends on traffic and how you maintain)
Maintenance is quite low and actually that's not going to be a concern.
In my experience both bikes have pretty good handling and Gixxer is more sporty.

In ground clearance hornet wins and even in braking too.
I would say hornet has bit more power but in handling Gixxer is better.

=> Both bikes are good in performance.
2.Mileage
=> Ride within limited RPM's will return better mileage. Ex. If hornet give 50kmpl then gixxer will return around 45kmpl
3.Durability (Including Less maintenance)
=> I have 1 year old Gixxer and done 10000+ kms. Still no signs of vibration or rattle. Engine still smooth and punchy. Don't know much about long term use of Hornet.
4.Looks (In my personal view Hornet looks better)
=> This is personal choice.
5.Handling (Since its city ride most of the time need to face lots of traffic)
=> Gixxer handles just a bit better then Hornet because of its sleek design.

Is there any issue in ground clearance
=> Yes it has, With pillion rider Gixxer touches speed breakers.
How comfortable is pillion seat
=> Hornet is better in pillion seat comfort.
Any rusting problem
=> No rusting issue in Gixxer. Might have in initial batches. And they replace covered (warranty) parts without hassle.


Mainly suggest which is better for city ride.
=> My suggestion. Both bike are good. Just drive them back to back. And take which ever you feel comfortable with. All the best. Drive safe.
