Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
It is a little hectic in office these days and I have been making a lot of trips in between office timings so weekday is not an option as of now if I want to be there to see the service. From next service, I will go on weekdays.Originally posted by s1d View Post

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
yeh goto the banjara svc, easier to hang around there due to it's small open layout. i might drop in there around 930am for a quick chain adjust/lube and a plug swap to ngk ir plug.Originally posted by TheOperator View PostI generally had this habit of getting my pulsar serviced in front of me and got to learn a lot about bikes through that. But recently I have seen that the mechanics constantly bug you to go to waiting area and be seated there. They don't feel comfortable if the owner stands there and asks few questions.
Nevertheless, I will still try to see my bike getting serviced. I will be going for my first service tomorrow at Banjara KTM [Odo@640KM].
I would love to ride with you guys. Just me let me know when you people plan the ride and I will make my plans accordingly
but why go on a saturday for a service.. it will be crowded and they might ask you to leave the bike and come back later. what i usually do is go a couple of days prior and book/inform them that i will be coming on so n so date (usually a weekday), ask them to keep the spares available (especially if any non regular spares are required, sometimes i've had to wait for even the filters which were bought down from kondapur)... that lets me hang around without any hassles and get the work done. do pm your name & number and i will add you into our whatsapp group.

They only want to rush and close the job card, and replace parts.
you could have checked another rc at the svc itself. do it the next time you visit the svc.
I can't say much without actually checking your bike.. it might very well be normal and you are freaking out for nothing
Do let me know if you are interested in joining some of us on a ride, we do ride on and off on weekends during the sep-jan season.
most of the regular service is not complicated and just as any normal bike. why dont you watch your bike being serviced and you will understand what i mean. on the rc it is a pain to get the fairing off and on. The bigger problem here is spares availability.. ktm spares aren't available outside the svc (except for the oil filter of the ns200 is the same.. which is available outside, and the non adjustable levers from prev gen are similar to the ones from the pulsars)
for any electronics or fi related issues, u might need the diag tool which is again only available at the svc. some can be done without diag tool too by interpreting the flash code pattern on the console
there is one mechanic Srikanth who used to work at ktm banjara (head mechanic) who i believe is going to start his own small garage somewhere near uppal or ghatkesar.
for now, the next two yrs stick to the svc to keep your warranty intact.. and always be present when your bike is being serviced. you get to see and learn some basic stuff.

That is what i had mentioned earlier.. the work at the svc is just like any other place (though they might be friendly etc..). They will take the easiest path to fix a problem and may even try to dampen it so that it occurs less frequently. Yesterday after changing the rear sprocket and washing the bike, I guess somebody cleaned the rear brake pad with oil or greasy thing and my brakes stopped working. This got rectified today though but could be fatal if the same would have happened to front disc. I would be going to Banjara Hills KTM for my first service.
A really good idea which you have given me is trying to look for the chain movement in some other RC 390. But no one owns a 390 in my friend circle so that will take some time. May be on my first service will try to check this on some other RC 390.
If possible I will make a video of the chain rotation and upload here. Maybe you guys can spot something irregular with movement [If there is any].
2) Are we stuck with KTM SVC for servicing forever even after the warranty period? Do we have any good shops outside [in Hyderabad] which service KTM, although it becomes difficult as many diagnostic tools are required for ECU, etc.?

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Well the rear sprocket was changed as part of warranty and the noise is less now but still comes sometimes. [Like when I go over uneven roads]. I feel this is not ideal but also not avoidable [or out of scope of KTM kondapur guys to fix]. Wheel seems aligned as the bike stability is not at all affected and holds a straight line and corners well. Front Sprocket is not bend or damaged as I have checked personally. Will check the swing arm again. Not sure about the rubber dampers though.Originally posted by s1d View PostHave you checked if the rear wheel alignment is proper ? The adjusters on both sides of the swingarm should be at the same position.
Need to inspect the sprockets for any bend or warping too and change the rubber dampers too. Quiet a bit of troubleshooting to do.
Also compare with another 390, so you get a better idea on this.
Do keep us posted on this.

I have few more questions:
1) Is the ABS on the rear wheels a little too aggressive as I can feel it kicking in quite sometimes when I hard press the brakes [Not hard enough for the wheel to lock]. Same is not the case with front brakes as I never felt it coming alive under any type of braking. Can something be done about it, like decreasing the aggressiveness of the rear ABS?
