  • [Ownership Thread]: Harley Davidson Street Rod 750 Charcoal Denim 2018 Ownership Thread

Hello members. Was searching for an ownership review on Harley Davidson Street Rod on xbhp but couldn't find, so had to buy one and post the owner ship

    Crisp Review

    1. Selection. Many bikes for consideration..z900...cbr650..no HD though.
But someone suggested to look at the new street rod and it just looked brute....looks in charcoal denim colour are amazing. Add the durability of a HD further assisted in making the go.

2 Purchase Experience. Booked the bike online with Harley Dealership Delhi. They promised the bike within a week as i wanted charcoal denim which was older model and no more available. The colour has been dropped by HD, though IMO its the best colour for this model. Bike was delivered on 06th Apr as per my requirement. Small cake ceremony, though the dealership guys got almost all the cake..only my kid got a piece

    3. Initial Impressions. Looks bigger and bulkier in actual as compared to pictures. A fat front tyre and chunky front shocks give it a solid look. Bike really heavy ( i come from a 1999 cbz). Cant even move a inch without struggling. Sitting posture odd initially but one gets used to in time. Clutch better and softer than cbz. Accelerator also smooth. Tank sits very low between legs, feels awkward, only initially. Rear view mirrors very good, however very wide, prone to hits. Engine is powerful, bike pulls and pulls, sound is also good ( i am not a fan of loud exhausts) and stock exhaust sufficient to inform that a bigger than regular bike is approaching. Engine heat is tremendous. Within five minutes legs start to burn. And when the radiator fan starts, it blows burning hot air directly into your legs.. extremely unconfortable if not wearing jeans and shoes. Heat reaches even the pillion and if he or she without shoes or full pants, expect displeasure from them. Have to take care while filling at petrol pumps, as i could see hot air fumes rising up the tank!. Had to tell the pump guy to be carefull, its so hot. While moving though its good except for an occasional hot air drift. Better is to switch off the bike at traffic lights. Brakes are amazing and ABS works precisely. Headlight good at low beam, however high beam aims a bit high, needs to be adjusted.

    4. Misc. The bike makes you smile every time you accelerate. Red light drag races ( i dont subscribe to them ) are easy wins. Tyres are so grippy during accelerations. The bike has a big road presence, expect many eyes to turn. If one is a fan of loud exhausts, it will turn more heads.

    5. Summary. One cannot go wrong with this motorcycle.

    6. Positives.
    Power
    Road presence
Mileage (18 kmpl approx in mixed riding )
Service interval (8000 km or 01 year)
Service Cost (6800 approx claimed by dealer, though i got one free service and paid ZERO for it at 1600 km. They didn't charge for labour thats regular but what surprised was that engine oil and oil filters were also replaced free of cost! )
Comes with two seats and pillion footpegs, ready to be used by two persons right out of showroom.

    7. Negatives.
Too much heat, thoug you get used to it.
Ergnomics take some time getting used to, and when you do, all other bikes seem very odd when you ride them afterwards.
Pillion is not too comfortable for long drives.
    Heavy.

    8. Hope it helps others to make decisions

    Thank you.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Thanks for the review. Can you please let us know what was the price on the bike. There has been a price increase post Apr 1 and was yours billed at latest price or the old one? Please share a price breakup if HD charges additional handlind or storage charges?

Do you plan to get heat deflectors installed? Read in many forums that it reduces heat directed to the legs by a good extent.

@ shera_ranveer - sir, i asked the dealership about the heat shields but they did not recommend it as the heat will not get dissipated as effectively as without the heat shields, so i dropped the idea..........also now i am used to the heat..part of experience

Riding experience its good...though tiring after some time. elbows start paining in some time...nothing of an issue, you get used to it. Fitter you are, lesser you tire.

          @ Whencut86 - Ex showroom Price pre 01 Apr 18 was 618000/- ( 471755.72 + 66045.80 CGST + 66045.80 SGST + 14152.67 Cess)

          20320/- insurance

          RTO charges extra...depends on state..

          No handling charges by HD.

They also provided an option to choose from 2 year extended warranty for free or leg guard.... both of which were costing around 18K....I opted for the leg guard

there has been hike of approx 39K in ex-showroom price

          hope it helps

Thanks. Yes the ex-showroom in now 6.55L in Pune. I checked with Two Rivers HD dealer in Pune and they mentioned on-road of 8 lakhs.

The bike looks awesome in Charcoal Grey. Sadly they don't have that shade anymore. The GC of 205mm is ample and a boon in our roads.

I see that you have ridden from Delhi-Pune. How is the ride quality? Reviews say it has a stiff suspension and doesn't like potholes much?

Ergonomics take some getting used to in this bike. But this is a welcome upgrade to the Street 750 with better brakes, ABS and increased GC. The seating position, ride and engine heata re the only things which are a drawback.

              @whencut 86... sir u from pune?

Yes , suspension is stiff but no issues...its not that bad...comfy rider seat caters for it.... but pillion may be unhappy....

Gc is great....i could go over big speed breakers easily..even climbed broken foothpaths along roads which were jammed with long queues of trucks .....its a big plus.....

Ergnomics are not bad...they are different...one gets used to em easily...in fact now i find riding all other bikes odd.!

Ride quality is stiff but on plain roads its super smooth..bike stays stuck to the road...

Yes, I am from Pune. GC of this bike is a boon on our roads. But I wonder if the stiff suspension will be a hassle on bad roads when taken for touring.

M 6'2.... if you are short.. it will be difficult to ride....bike 's width is much so putting legs on ground becomes difficult , also one has to keep legs further away..else the bike engine may burn left thigh or exhaust pipe may burn the right calf...

Don worry about ergos...just a matter pf getting used to...

yes....seen that heat guard online....still HD showroom guys recommended not using it....also it hides the cylinder towards rear

Taller people will be more comfortable in handling the bike...especially while pushing the bike rearwards while sitting on it..one has to have legs competely on ground
Also the drag bar is easier to reach....

                            Travelled from Gurgaon to Pune....

                            Dist - 1300km approx

Started early each day at 0500 Hrs...5.30 am

                            1st day Gurgaon - Ajmer = 250 km approx ...... 5-6 hrs....good roads.....reached ajmer at about 2.30 pm

2nd day Ajmer to Vadodara = 550 km approx .......amazing roads till udaipur....long curvy roads ...rising and descending roads..best of views.......post udaipur, roads started becoming straight, no more twisties....

3rd day Vadodara to Pune = 520 km approx......good roads till mumbai, till pune, worst road patches...especially in thane....

experiences.....initially ride amazing.. but later on tiring.....one peculiar thing...right hand become unfunctional ahead of wrists, unable to even hold things, cant even twist the keys to turn the bike...till date it is improving though...still difficult to write...continuous holding of accelerator probably took its toll....

bike can do 100 + kph all day easily....just the rider has to be fit

                            Few pics...

Any plans to change the exhaust of the bike!? The muted exhaust note sounds like a sewing machine. Vance and Hines or TBR can help her sing! ☺️
