    Hello All,

This happens to be my first post. I am a proud owner of the interceptor 650 and have been a long time lurker in xBHP. Have used this forum whenever I had any questions about motorcycling. A big thanks and a shout out to all who find it in their hearts to help out noobie biker's like me.

I had a concern with my interceptor which has been nagging me for a while. Some of the times when I do a downshift to 1st or an upshift to 2 or 3, there is a loud thud that I can hear from the gearbox. Is this normal? Also some of the times when I am downshifting in succession the lever just gets stuck and I have to release the clutch and let the gearbox sip the engine for a bit and only then it allows me to change. Anyone else faced this issue and also, any idea how I can get it resolved.

Reading most of the reviews about the buttery transmission are making me feel it is a problem with a select few. Please guide.

Alternatively u can also try wax based lube from the likes of tribocor. They stick well and dont fling off. With regular chain maintenance and regular riding, it should be fine. For chain cleaning, kerosine, diesel works well, else you can also use branded chain cleaners which is expensive option. One line of thought is that kerosine and diesel affect the rubber chain lube sealing ring, but there is no concrete evidence on that hence a lot of people use them as cheaper alternative for cleaning chain.

For the engine case, do take it to service center and ask for cover replacement if feasible. Those marks can be a result to various reasons and will be difficult to pin point. For general buffed aluminium surface such as these, there are few polishes available for those who like to polish and keep them new. FOr most of us, general care is good enough. As long as the surface is uniform (unlike in your present case), we can always restore the sheen with a buffing pad attached to a drill machine. Let us know what the service center findings are.

Thanks for the advise mate, today i went to the service center (SC), according to them this is very common with all Re's except the Himalayan . To my surprise they showed me some brand new classics and standard with first stage of corrosion on shocks and engine block. There was two interceptor and a gt in the showroom with fungus like marks on the engine blocks, but the silencer joints were much better this time.

As per the warranty norms parts with oxidation are not covered. So the only two ways are possible with SC first the usage of a metal/brass polish and rub it of or buffing which could hamper the shining. This is what i got from service center and i do asked about the powder coating of Himalayan but the SC are not doing painting work. I didn't met ASM, but i kind of felt there isn't much he can do about this. I met couple of staffs they all seems helpless in this matter. So what should i do ? .

For engine casing which is aluminum you can safely use metal polish for buffing off the marks, and for the chrome parts like exhaust use nickel powder or for stubborn stuff use a different buffing compound meant for chrome plated parts. Usually the nickel powder would be sufficient for exhaust and other chrome plated parts.
I have in past used nickel powder on my previous Enfields and it helped.
Check out Mehra Riderz on YouTube thay guy has made detailed videos on engine buffing and different compounds and nickel powder he will even send it to your place.

And still try to see what's the ASM take on this.

Thanks for the advise, i ll definitely meet ASM once i buy the metal and chrome polish, i ll ask him "how should an owner feel when he has to use external compounds to get rid of corrosion on a brand new bike"
          i ll post updates,

found a guy modified his gt650, posted on teambhp looks cool

That thud when you engage gear come from almost all 650's. And yes i am also facing problem in downshifting. Some times it gets stuck between two gears and i have to release the clutch little bit and the again press it then only it slots in a lower gear.

                  Update for SIRIUS.
Done close to 1600kms on odometer in 3 months, not getting much to ride.
All good till now, the wheel wobble issue was fixed at the service center after alignment and balancing of the rims all the spokes were tightened and it fixed the wobble from front end when leaning at higher speed.
Last calculated city only fuel economy is 22.9kpl.
Highway economy is 26 to max 31.2 kpl. I got maximum figure when riding in speed zone of 90 to 110kmph.
                  Got few items installed recently.
1 backrest with luggage rack Rs800/- local from karolbag.
2 small box from studds. Rs700/-
3 Mobile charger with usb and 12v socket Rs400/-
                  4 A simple seat cover Rs400/-
5 labor for all work Rs300/-

All work done at one shop in Karolbag Jeetu bike point.
                  Few pics after the mods.

You need to change your shifting pattern. While downshifting, try doing a rev match and while upshifting, do it in a lesser time; i.e. throttle release+clutch pull+gear shift+clutch release should happen in sync.

Levers should not get stuck like that. Will be a hassle if this happens during panic braking. Again, change your shifting pattern and shift fully before releasing the clutch. Adjust your chain slackness and keep it well lubed.

This can also happen since the bike is new and since you're getting used to it while running it in. Keep riding and enjoy the ride

Thank you so much for the tips. Actually I have completed 1.5k on the bike and I somehow felt the gearshifts were becoming harder and louder by the day. Somehow I feel that the shifts were smoothest on day 1 when I got the bike. Will try harder to rev match the next time I am out for a ride.

Another thing I noticed is that there is no lock nut on the handlebar side of the clutch cable. Due to this when I am pressing the clutch and turning (this happens a lot in Bangalore traffic), my clutch cable setting keeps getting loosened (turning left) or tightened (turning right). I felt this was a very elementary miss on REs side. When I showed it at the service center the folks very coolly said it's a problem with all the bikes. [emoji52]

I think you either have to live with it or do some jugaad on the lock nut. Hope your gear shift problem resolves real soon. Happy riding!

Well it is similar to zana but not exactly like it, he was asking for Rs 850/- i bargained a little (not much), paint quality and welding looks sturdy and acceptable. It serves my purpose to the T.
Don't know if he will ship it to your place, you can Google his details Jeetu bike point karolbag , or find the shop and contact details in the description of the video i am sharing here. And ask him if he will ship it or not.
