  • Rattling noise from the exhaust after rides

Hi Guys! I took delivery of my interceptor 2 weeks ago and gave it in for its first service last week. Since it came back from service, its been making a rattling noise (seemingly from the exhaust pipes) when i kill the engine, after a ride. It does this after every ride, irrespective of whether it's a long one or a 5 minute sprint.

I was told by the service centre that it's the catalytic converter "cooling down" and that it's "totally normal". My problem is that I seem to think it started only after I got it serviced. It wasn't there (or maybe I didn't notice it) for the first 530 odd kms.

I'll be honest, I'm just a tiny bit worried about this and would love to get a neutral opinion from you guys. At the risk of sounding paranoid, I'm not able to take the service centre at their word 100%, although it's likely nothing to worry about.

    Cheers guys!

Congrats first of all on the purchase and welcome to the party.

Secondly about the noise...If it is an incessant noise like " tik tik tik tik.." which subsides after some time maybe after 30 mins...Then what the svc centre guys say is correct. I find a similar noise in my classic 500 as well.

If it is any other mechanical rattle like a bolt loose etc...Plz have it checked.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess the sound can better be described as a "clicking" sound. And yes, it does relent within 30 mins usually. Just wondering if it was there all along and I didn't notice it or if it just started after the first service. Anyway, reassuring to know that it's not just me. Any other interceptor owners who have the same?

My two year old interceptor has the clicking sound and so does my six year old Classic 500. This sound has been there on both the bikes since the very beginning.

I was worried exactly like you when I noticed it for the first time on my classic 500. What I was told then was that the hot parts of the bike that is the silencer pipes etc which would have undergone thermal expansion are contracting back to their normal size. I accepted the explanation. By the way I have observed this sound in my Honda Dio as well.

The clicking sound is more pronounced in the interceptor especially after a long ride. Hope this helps.

That's very reassuring. Thanks!I guess I've had it with the obsessing over details and worrying about scratches etc :P About time to stop and enjoy motorcycling Somehow found myself getting very OCD when it comes to this bike

I saw you mentioning handlebar risers in an earlier post - out of curiosity, which ones have you gone for? And has it altered the balance/handling of the bike in any way?

two days into my ownership, i was sure that I needed them. But as of now, my body seems to have adjusted to the stock setup. There is the caveat, however, that I haven't really done any significant distance at a stretch.

I'd like to know more about your experience. Browsed around for the available options and hit upon lluvia, HDT customs and ADV tribe. ADV tribe seems to be of decent build quality but this is entirely guesswork based on branding, website, youtube reviews etc.

Would like to add this for the modification aficionados here.

Basically, the RE Himalayan forks are being swapped with some modification.

There is chain of video related to the same.

Hope it helps someone, planning along this route.

                Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                THE END

I bought risers almost a year and half ago when there were barely any risers in the market. What I have are the basic first design of risers which were manufactured by HDT Customs. Basically a plain aluminium version of the type that I have attached in the photo. These are the simplest risers in terms of design and can be fixed by anyone with a small spanner. These risers have not affected the handling or the balance of the front end of the motorcycle in any way. They have just raised the handle in its present position by an inch which makes long rides a lot more comfortable.

The other more complex risers provided by HDT customs, Indimotard, Carbon racing etc, not only increase the handlebar height but also bring the handle closer to the rider. I have not yet felt the need to change my risers to the more complex ones. On the contrary I have been riding with the GT 650 clip on handlebars for the past one year because I like the committed position for short rides.

To simplify, what riser you choose would be dependent upon the final riding position that you want. Having pull back kind of risers is not a bad idea. HDT customs is a guy known to me and his custom parts are usually well designed. Similarly Indimotard is also a very well known name. Based on the popularity of Carbon Racing windshields even they seem to be doing well with customers.

Only point that you must keep in mind is that during installation in case of pull back risers like HDT customs you will have to remove the tank to reroute one cable. This has to be done correctly. Hence handle bar riser installation is best done either in the RE ASS or in the shop where you are purchasing.

Go ahead get risers of your choice. They are a worthwhile investment.Click image for larger version

While you are at it researching on the perfect riser for your bike, try giving the AOM Handlebar a shot. It's got decent reviews and IMO is better than 1 inch riser's. I've had the carbon racing riser for a year now and I'm not sure if it's the best solution to an upright position. Then again, your height, riding posture, terrain conditions, etc. play an important role in the process and you'll have to take them into considerationClick image for larger version

I think I'm gonna stay with stock for now. I did 200 km today and it was fine. Towards the end, I felt a bit of discomfort, but I think I'm more inclined to start working on making my body more supple than meddling with the bike at least for now.

I noticed a few red specks today on one of my exhausts, where it meets the engine. Halfway through the ride, I noticed that the other exhaust was also turning orangish, again, where it meets the engine.

Is this normal, or should I contact the service centre?

                        Hello fellow Twin riders!

I heard about front fork pre-load adjusters for RE Twins doing the rounds recently. Has anybody used any such pre-load adjusters? If yes, could you please provide a review about it.

                        Are they worth it?

How much of a difference do they make when compared to changing the entire stock front suspension and installing aftermarket progressive springs?

March Autotech is an Indian company I found while searching for the pre-load adjusters. Recommendation about any other company making pre-load adjusters are welcome.

Recently I came across a video on YT where a gentleman was fined in Kerala for having non standard handlebars on his RE bike. While we all know that any mod beyond the stock form is a violation of the law, people being fined for handles is not something that I have not heard of in the last five years. Would request fellow riders to share if there have been any such experiences in various parts of the country...

Does anyone know how much the front disc plate costs? Along with the 5 bolts.

If they caught you then they can fine you for all non oem stuff you have , handle bar is an essential oem item homologated with the Motorcycle non oem items are not homologated.
Tody the situation is that if you were fine for stop line crossing with a red light cam then they will check all other valid documents related to the vehicle and you will get chalan for same if you don't have say a valid puc or insurance, as all the records are maintained in the system.

I had noticed a leak in my right fork on my yesterday ride. So i did this to fix it. In this video i will show you what i did and how i did it. I made a home made sealmate/seal buddy to do it.
This would work on both telescopic and usd forks and would probably save you from spending on fork seal.
