[QUOTE=Ijs;1396245]Looks like a simple case of messed up valve adjustment(too tight) , oil splutter from head is a clear sign, missing bolt is another idiotic thing on their part, probably the gasket wasn't also properly set.
The catcon noise is prob the rattling sump guard another useless accessories placed incorrectly.
@Ijs thanks for your response. Been a testing day.

    1. The cat con noise has been going on from before i had the sump guard installed but after it came back from first service (i'm inclined to take Mr.chakrapani at his word that it's no issue)

    2. I remember that the test ride vehicle just darted to 90 (speedo indicated) on 2nd gear and using that as a rough makeshift metric, my interceptor just seems a tad sluggish. It seems reticent to go past 80-90 (again, speedo indicated) comfortably in any gear.

    3. There's been crazy overheating since i started hearing the tappet noise. Even the tank gets hot.

    4. the parts where the exhaust pipes meet the engine block have been getting seriously discoloured (orangish red). goes away with metal polish but comes back with a vengeance.

Are you able to tie these together in your head somehow? adulterated engine oil perhaps? I'm absolutely clueless, seriously paranoid and on the borderline of being resigned to accepting a defective motorcycle.

Again, thanks a lot and I'm really embarrassed to go on so much about this issue.

P.S: On an afterthought, because of how heated the situation was, I can't be sure that it wasn't a fuel leak and not an oil leak. because, the liquid was bright orange and not the cruddy black i expect oil to be after 1500 km. Does this change things in any way? As i said, I have ZERO trust in what they are saying as it is, and now that they're trying to cover their backsides, I don't believe a word they say

1looks like i missed the original post would like to hear that noise if possible in DM.

2 Mine Does 100 on speedo in 2nd.

3 teppet noise is ok too much means clearance being over loose in all or one.
Lose valves won't harm the engine tight would definitely bad news, so sort of a good news. Valve adjustment is clearly bad.
4 Do u use ground water/ hard water to clean if yes then avoid on regular basis , atmospheric moisture can also be the cause. I do have tiny rusty spot I don't mind thoes. Re would replace this just shoot pics and mail.

Won't say adulterated oil but yes few re service centers have been found using 20w50 or 15w50 semi synthetic oil in place of 10w50 full synthetic.

they say they didn't adjust the tappets during the first service. I'm really glad to hear you say this because this is a clear sign something has been wrong the whole time. They had me believing it's completely my imagination I've tried 20 times at least and i have to stop accelerating by the time it hits 80 on the speedo (which means a good 6 seconds at least on several occasions) So, what do you think is causing this sluggishness and lack of refinement? do you think the wrong grade of oil could have caused this whole cascade? if so, any way i can bring it to light with them, and catch them red handed so to speak?

Valve adjustment is now mandatory by RE at first service with new gasket improper adjustment could be a factor bin lack of performance. Overheating could be due to wrong grade of Engine oil also the plug gap needs to be seen.
But big question is if they haven't worked bon valves then how the hell the head cover bolt came lose as RE has used good quality thread locker on each bolt and it takes good enough strength to open it for first time.
Did they change the oil filter Do confirm that as choked oil filter could also lead to heating.

It's beyond obvious now that they are downright crooks (this SC that is). No word that comes out of their mouths can be trusted. Today, i take the bike back to find it in shockingly worse shape than when i gave it in. Tappet noise is back louder than ever. I can't take these guys at their word about the filter or anything. Utter lack of transparency. No point there.

I need to find another recourse here. Don't know what to do. Really lost and majorly outraged, but outrage isn't going to help one bit. I need to find a way to get this situation out into the open. Any half awake person with no ulterior agendas can see that my bike is in appalling shape for a sub-2-month old machine.

Funny you should say that- wrote a strongly worded (but civil) post on royal enfield's fb page. I see now that it's been promptly taken down in a matter of 15 mins

Got in touch with the territory service manager but i'm very skeptical now and I see that he's one of them sweet tongued sales people who'll say what's expedient. He's told me that he'll get a royal enfield "Flyer" (whatever that means) to check my bike and restore it to condition.

FIngers crossed. I've made a post on my fb and tagged royal enfield. don't think they can take this one down. we'll see

Yesterday saw the RE meteor at showroom. Bike looks very well built and certainly a lot more imposing than TB 350 or TB 350 X. The one in matt black finish reminds one of Harley Davidson. The fit and finish are top notch with a lot of attention to detail. The new design gear levers, brake fluid reservoir, rotary action switchgear and the overall feeling of premium ness was certainly screaming out loud to me. I must say that they have surpassed the Twins build quality. To me, the seat looks like the highlight of the package very plush and comfortable. Ideal for long stints. Funnily when I first noticed the Tripper pod I asked if this could be retrofitted on Twins. The sales guy was clueless. But I was sure that it could be done easily.

Now we just wait for the initial customer feedback and see if the engine is nigglefree. Going by the Twins experience I expect a runaway success on our hands.

Yes the tripper pod would be available soon for twins for around 4.8k Rupees.

                        Hey There,

Well apologies for such late reply (a month!).

I have upgraded front suspension on my Interceptor to YSS. I found during my first 5K of riding the bike, that I exceeded the capabilities of front suspension. I needed a firmer setup. Then Ohlin (Way too expensive) and YSS (I paid 23600) were only choices. Now Way2Speed has come up with a very affordable solution. I have only used YSS front suspensions (For 4K) and am extremely happy with it. The ride is more comfortable, planted both at slow speeds and at higher speeds. Best is we can adjust preload on the go. Damping valves work as it should.

Preload adjusters give you about 10mm more in suspension travel, which is a plus.

                        Would I recommend it? YES.

I am already contemplating upgrading rear suspension springs with progressive ones.

I heard about front fork pre-load adjusters for RE Twins doing the rounds recently. Has anybody used any such pre-load adjusters? If yes, could you please provide a review about it.

                        Are they worth it?

How much of a difference do they make when compared to changing the entire stock front suspension and installing aftermarket progressive springs?

March Autotech is an Indian company I found while searching for the pre-load adjusters. Recommendation about any other company making pre-load adjusters are welcome.

To be honest we desperately need alloys for the bike. I have now faced 5 punctures on my rear with only 6k on the odo, pretty sure I would be among the top riders under these parameters. RE please, give us alloys

I can completely empathise with your problem. Pushing this hulk around with a flat tyre can really take one to hitherto unknown levels of exasperation. You have had to face the ordeal 5 times.[emoji120]

While the Alloys for Interceptor seem to be taking forever to come, the on ground demand seems to be increasing by the day. I wonder what is keeping RE from coming out with these. Perhaps they are looking to launch the 650 cruiser with alloys which are compatible with the Interceptor. I really could not make out much in terms of tyre size from the spyshots available on net.

Fellow xbhpians with some more knowledge may enlighten us...

                              Just three things needed (desperately)

                              1. Alloys at reasonable rates
                              2. Better headlight
                              3. Clock on the twin-pot dials

                              • Hey everyone,
I had posted long back asking for advice regarding long ride home after the lockdown was lifted, unfortunately due to issues with registration couldn't bring my back home then. I finally rode it back yesterday total 610 km on my Baker express and it was my first ride.
                                1. The bike could cruise on 100-120 kph easily and this was a very surprising for me as the previous bike I had as Pulsar 180
                                2. The stock seat is god awful and I should've replaced when I had the chance.
                                3. I hit a dog at roughly 100 kph and I was certain I was going to fall but the bikes weight helped me keep it under control. The handled wobbled but I was able to bring it under control. I'm not sure whether I killed the dog but I didn't break or swerve due to a LPT I had read on reddit. If I had I would've definitely fell. I felt bad for the dog for sometime after I realized how close I had been to death.
                                4. I had to get a Explorer v3 jacket at the last moment. The new jacket looks good has Knox armor and goes well with the classic look of the bike. RE dealer gave me 15% off and a free duffel bag which was a bonus.
                                5. I was always concerned about the tires getting punctured in the middle of nowhere but luckily I didn't suffer any punctures.
Thanks Ijs who wrote a detailed guide last time and the community, learnt a lot being here.
