Re: KTM Adventure 390 Ownership Thread

    Hi Guys,

Got my KTM 390 Adventure White on October 5th ,2020. Still in the breaking in period.Could only manage 300 odd kms till now.
I had read/seen some review of the Adv where it was mentioned that around 110 kmph there is some vibrations which can be felt on the handlebars and foot-pegs which disappears above 120 and not felt below 110. I felt the same on one of my out of the city Highway rides. Was curious whether anyone in the Forum faced the same.

I am just shy of 6 ft tall, have the Axor Apex helmet. The windshield setting is in on the tallest setting. I get an immense amount of wind noise while riding triple digits. Was wondering its the helmet or the windshield height?

    Cheers

Is the seat powerpart really gonna be available.
Its handling is as nimble as my Dio handling.
A general google search would show that there are lowering kits but I believe that's for the entire bike.
Had spoken to the dealer at Indiranagar, Bangalore. They were saying that the power-parts would come out some time end 2020 or early 2021.
Also read through some articles KTM mulling India made power-parts.

    Cheers

I am a little curious about what are the essential add-ons people bought for their 390 adv. I was considering the following:

    - extended visor
    - mobile mount (on GPS mount position)
    - bashplate/skidplate replacement

Is there anything else I should look at?

    Thanks in advance!!

Would suggest you drive around your bike at highway speeds with the two windshield settings before you invest in an extended visor.
If you are buying a mobile mount because the KTM navigation app is paid, i found an app on Google play used by KTM owners which pushes any navigation application that you might be using to the instrument panel. Else, i saw that Zana makes some neat mobile holders which integrates into the GPS mount, i believe HDT customs also makes something similar.
bash-plate and skid-plate are again subject to the amount of off-roading-,broken roads that you are expecting to see. The all aluminum power-part is not available as of now in India. Don't recollect seeing one for the 390 Adv from the plethora of Indian manufacturers out their.

Re: KTM Adventure 390 Ownership Thread

While taking the test ride I had notice the brakes were squeaking/squealing. I had ignored it thinking it might be a one of case with the test ride bike and that I had not heard it or read it on other reviews.

I noticed the same on my brand new brake. So wanted to know whether if someone else has noticed the same or thinks this can be ignored.

Happens to the best of us. Mostly, it can be due to accumulated dust at their depo. In case of squeals and squeaks, it's recommended to clean the brake rotor with disc cleaner and then wash the rotor thoroughly. I'd also recommend to remove the pads and glaze them a little with sand paper, helps.

        Cheers!

Ahh, quite possible. I had driven around some dusty routes and was raining. The fact that the braking performance is still the same, amazing is a consolation. Will check out the rotors and pads.

Re: KTM Adventure 390 Ownership Thread

Got some time over the weekend to take KAT(christened her) for a 250+ km trip to Ranganathittu bird sanctuary from Bangalore via Mysore Road.
Currently the bike has done 630 km on the odometer. The following are some of the general observations I made.

            1) The bike is always planted at speed and dosen't break composure even while going on bad patches. The pillion is also not affected.
            2) The shift from 2nd-3rd gear and the way back is clunkier than the other shifts.
            3) Finding Neutral is an issue and like i saw one of the you-tube videos is dependent on your footwear in the sense how much feel you get through one.
            4) The mirrors are buzzy, this buzziness is not in the entire engine speed range. Have to verify the range.
            5) The reserve comes on with approx 4-4.5 l still left in the tank.
            6) The pillion seat is comfortable for rides up to 150 km, but beyond that it would be better to either widen or soften the cushion.
            a) One can look at aftermarket air cushion seats for the pillions like Fego or Air Ride or any other brand of your choice.
            b) Change the cushion of the seat at a seat maker. But i believe this might change the aesthetics of the bike.
            c) Wait for the ergo seat power-part to come. This one is going to be expensive, haven't actually seen any review of the same too.
            7) The better half liked that her feet didn't go numb from buzziness of the pillion foot rest, also the pillions sitting triangle is comfortable.

Have to write a travelogue for the trip to the bird sanctuary. It's a place nature lovers or otherwise should try and visit to enjoy seeing Pelicans, raptors, marsh crocodiles etc.
            Cheers

Re: KTM Adventure 390 Ownership Thread

Got my first service done at 703 kms. Booking the service booked is hassle free. One can call them up to book the service or through the KTM Care app. I did it through the app. Was nothing special here, they changed the engine oil,oil filter,o-ring,put some washers/double sided tape on the windshield and tightened and lubricated the chain.

I could not run the bike too much, but in the limited run had noticed the gear shifts have become more slick.

Vishnu, appreciate your feedback and detailed service write up. I would like to know the DS tape jugaad. Did you check with them that this double taping was mandated by KTM or was just another jugaad to arrest vibrations? Because it can help someone, somewhere having some "bad vibes"

                Cheers!

                  Hi,

Thank you. I didn't check whether this is a KTM mandated fix. I saw a biker before me getting the fix done on his adventure. There was a youtuber named dream chaser who got this done at some Delhi KTM centre. I will get this verified at the service centre.

                  Cheers

Try fiddling with the rear suspension pre-load and see if it helps. It does help a bit if you want to reduce your seat height.

The double tape/foam washer is something that is coming as standard on the current 390 advs and being retrofitted for people who bought the first lot of 390 advs. This is what the service coordinator mentioned.

Also MTC is the only options that is not retained in quick selector after key off. Saw it on another 390 adv that was in the service.

Great. So what I concur is, technically, this part is available and can be purchased off the shelf for a "vibey" cousin, is that right. Do you, by any chance have a picture of this foam/washer thingy?

A few days ago that both my tires had lost pressure. Took it to the local puncture repair shop. He didn't find anything punctures or any leaky valve. Passed it thinking it might be a prank, but within two days now the tyre pressure had dropped. Have dropped the bike off to the service centre to check the tyre, rims(no bends on visual inspection). SA mentioned he would get the beadings checked( Don't know what that is)

Couldn't find the part number. The spares part guy said he wasn't sure which part number the foam washer belonged to as he had not ordered any seperate items together. Was the end of the day,so sounded more of an excuse, but I get the feeling.😁

KTM Is changing the front mud flap and the front Brake o ring under warranty. The mud flap got changed but the brake o ring (supposed cure for the brake squeaking) has not reached the service guys yet.

The front wheel beading got cleaned and they applied grease. Curious thing was that the service guy mentioned he has done this before,so was wondering whether this is known issue.🤔

                                A bit off-topic!!

I assume standard warranty for the 390Adv is 2 years, request you make note that any warranty parts replaced are tracked in job card, the same updated in KTM portal and it should reflect in your KTM Assist mobile app under your bike service details. If not, do push and pressure your SVC to update the same.
KTM SVC's are known to do such shady under the table replacement jobs without keeping a track or updating in the KTM one portal.

Also if you can do push for free warranty extension for extra 1 or 2 years, being the 1st batch of 390Adv's are known to have plagued with various issues, ECU failure error, MTC failure error, water leaking into tail lights, dead pixels in LCD display, burnt LED light segments.

So being the early adopter, touch wood but for most of the times you do the job beta tester being the early adopter, it'd be good to be covered against these in future. KTM did offer free 2 years of warranty extension to 1st year batch of bikes for 2017 KTM normal D390 from 2017-2018 buyers owners due to various issues. Hope the same can be claimed for 390 Adv's.
