(Exactly) Two cents:

*On the HMSI site, 5W-30 oil is mentioned to be MA but they have a picture of an Activa next to the bottle.
*I read the manual online, it says 10W-30 MA in the maintainence section and either 5W-30 MA, or 10W-30 MA/MB in the Service Data section. This appears to be a copy-paste mistake, we know one can't use MB.

Congratulations sir! With their Bs6 products, Honda has set new 'refinement & NVH goals' for the competition. Their new ACG silent start system is addictive. Their start-stop system on Activa 125 works so seamlessly that Hero's i3S system looks like a joke. The 110 & 125 cc engines are also all new (both bikes & scooters). What is more surprising is that Honda is specifying 5w30 grade engine oil and 6000km service intervals for all their Bs6 engines!

Well it did not go well with Hero . I had booked Super Splendor BS-VI disc on 1st October , expecting to finish the whole process in a week or so since I was ready with full cash payment . But the supply of the disc variant is thin and they kept pressing me to take drum variant . On 15th Oct my bike was still not shipped yet , so I called up my nearby Honda dealer and they had Shine BS-VI all colours in disc just ready , so ...

Started biking with early 2000s Splendor in a rare silver color. It stayed with me through a worry free 7 years / 44000 kms before we sold it to our carpenter in 2007. He then rode that bike with luggage to Rajasthan multiple times. Last I heard he was still using it in 2015. Lost the contact afterwards but I'm sure that Splendor is still puttering around somewhere just the way it was in 2001. What a solid bike! My best friend still has CD100SS clocking in about 1.5L kms till date and counting.

Splendor completes 90,000kms. If it weren't for COVID, the ODO would be close to a 1 Lakh. There's always next year.

Engine oils are designed to deal with some contaminants while still remaining functional , so I don't think there would be any problem if you run the oil for full use duration . But scotch-brite® pad is quite abrasive for cast aluminum metal and can cause deeper scratches on the mating surfaces of the engine case covers , which then has potential to leak oil . I used a plastic knife , solvent soaking and lots of patience to clean the clutch-side cover gasket when I had removed it ( twice upto now ). Keep an eye for oil seeps .



Not to promote anyone but saw these excellent offers for Gulf Powertrac 10w30 synthetic 4T oil for Splendor & like - check it out . The oil is also very very good as I have used 3 bottles earlier , so I ordered 4 bottles ( already have another bottle of savsol 10w30 in stock ) .

I would advice you to stay clear of Hero motorcycles currently. There have been a lot of problems with their newer engines. The newer passion is struggling from gear not engaging, i3s not working and some other electrical issues. The gear not engaging case is also there in the Xtreme 160R as many reviewers have reported that they have faced issues while shifting gears. Although I don't know specifically about the Super Splendor/Glamour, but I think these might have the same issues too.


Also need help from you all. So today opened up my father's splendor clutch cover to clean up the oil strainer. But to my surprise, it was as clean as a new one. Not even a single debris on the oil strainer. So decided to skip cleaning the centrifugal clutch. Cleaned up the old gasket using Scotch Brite and this is where my concerns begin. I've found out just now that Scotch Brite contains Aluminium Oxide which can cause serious fatal engine failures. The average size of these particles is about 40 microns and these can seriously damage the bearing surfaces. Has anyone else used Scotch Brite for cleaning up the gaskets? Also since I was in a hurry, I didn't cleaned the engine well. Although I'll be replacing the oil within the next 500 kms to prevent any damage to the engine, is there anything that anyone would like to add?

The bike in question is 2003 Splendor currently filled with Motul 3000 20W40. One thing that I assume, provided that I use the bike sedately the damage should be minimized especially with this 20W40 engine oil which runs thicker than it's Castrol's counterpart.

Hello there,

If you love Super Splendor, then the choice is very clear.
You can choose the updated as well as most refined 125cc Hero machine, which is none other than Hero Glamour 2020 BS6 model.
I would like to clarify this thing, from the introduction of the Super Splendor, Hero(previously Hero Honda) has been using the Glamour Engine as well as similar/same chassis for the Super-Splendor. Just with the fame of Splendor they had introduced this model to catch people's attention.
As of now, the Glamour looks the BEST-BUY for the money (90K in Karnataka as on July'2020 ), more over you will get a most-refined engine with the new fuel-saving 5-speed gear-box.
And a small mention: Hero Honda Glamour was the first bike to get Fuel Injection back in the early 2010s in the 125 segment. So you can choose Glamour over Super-Splendor.

That would be a nice choice. You'd get a nicely performing long stroke engine that makes ample power and torque to cruise through city traffic and highways while cruising easily at 70km/hr speed. And nothing beats the unmatched comfort and stability that the chassis and rear monoshock on the Unicorn has to offer. And the BS6 version is lighter, making it a great choice. I had the 2016 model which was sold in Feb 2020 when I upgraded to a different bike. 43.3k kms of well serving. All it ever demanded was a nicely timed change of consumables and maintenance.

You should check out the new Hero Glamour. I test rode it. Decent bike. Finally gets a 5-Speed GB, a front disc (a good one) and a 100/80 rear tyre (long overdue). It's quite comfortable compared to the older model and the chassis seems like an improvement over the old one (which had weight concentrated on rear).
