Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
That's a minor leak. But nothing to worry. Mine busted at 90k. At present my Passion Pro's got a minor oil leak from the cylinder packing, courtesy of the good work by the folks at Hero ASC. But I don't mind it as oil is not dripping and there's no drop in oil level.Originally posted by Pinaki View Post

I suggest you wait it out during lockdown and not hurry. Stop using the bike for a while so that it doesn't get worse. The seal costs about Rs 20. I changed mine around the 70k mark.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostOriginal Clutch plates are still okay @ 30K kms , no slips , just the kick oil-seal is gone from age, it costs Rs 15 or so ( HTA or JKP ) and can be replaced externally ( no need to open the clutch side cover ) . Only problem is to find it during lockdown . Not dripping though , just sweating - have to keep checking the oil-level until repair can be done .

Then I'd not panic if I were you.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostNot dripping though , just sweating - have to keep checking the oil-level until repair can be done .
I usually ignore vapor leaks and only change consumables if it starts dripping on the ground, survived a shifter seal leak for over 10k km's until the sprocket seal gave out, which is when I changed all 3 seals at once on the P220.
But unlike the Honda's both my motorcycles have oil inspection windows, so do keep an eye on oil level.
Cheers,

Get the Oil-Seal kit and Gasket kit, then change both Seals on the clutch cover, the kicker as well as the clutch cam rod seal..

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I've also had a similar experience. I got a speedo cable (inner) of some other model and a swing arm of Splendor Plus.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostUpto now I have had to throw away a air-filter B element , a throttle cable & a speedo cable just because they gave me the wrong ones saying Splendor & Splendor-Plus is same parts.
What I have learnt is that most ASC guys are uneducated about spare part no's. Apart from the engines, there are many more subtle differences between `Proʼ and `Plusʼ models. For example, the swing arm and swing arm axle. Pro models use a different swing arm and have thicker swing arm pivot axle. The bushes are also different. 90% ASC people have no idea about these differences and as a result we end up buying wrong parts.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Indeed , Hero's parts quality is no longer what it was whereas they are increasing prices every 6 months . Supply is also erratic and many times the authorised parts dealer for eastern India here ( Bansal Motors Kolkata ) doesn't have the regular things and tries to push another part-number without really knowing the compatibility . Upto now I have had to throw away a air-filter B element , a throttle cable & a speedo cable just because they gave me the wrong ones saying Splendor & Splendor-Plus is same parts . Although a bit afraid at first now I am using some aftermarket parts from reputable manufacturers - like ASK brake-shoes and this time I used HTA oil-seals in front fork service , a solid-state flasher-relay from Swiss , flasher-bulbs of Lumax , Chain-lock from Rolon , steering bearing balls of Bajaj etc . And of course no Hero oil . No problems so far .Originally posted by MotoMan View Post... In any case, don't buy Hero original. The quality is pathetic...Last edited by Pinaki; 04-12-2020, 12:39 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Mine is 14-44. It's the same for Passion Plus. I guess your Splendor has a 14-43 setup. You can either use the 14-44 setup of Passion series or go for the 14-45 setup of pre-2000 Splendor. Although the pre-2000 Splendor doesn't have much pickup in city, the 14-45 setup might do wonders in Splendor plus. In any case, don't buy Hero original. The quality is pathetic.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostWhat's the stock sprockets on your Passion-pro ?
On highways, Y2k Splendor / Splendor plus feels the best, followed by Passion plus. Passion pro is the worst both in terms of highway cruising and the quality of chain-sprocket. I myself will be changing to the 14-42 setup of Glamour / Super Splendor once my current setup expires.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
You & Ashwin are both right , on open roads outside the city I keep between 60-70 kmph in 4th and it rides sweetly like that . But I seldom get to ride on open roads . Our city roads are always congested and I have to ride between 2nd & 3rd at 20-40 kmph all the time . The Activas ( generic for the variomatics ) does that much better for smaller wheels and fast gear-free acceleration in the low end . Of course they don't handle broken roads , potholes & speed-breakers very well . If I don't like 13teeth front cog it's not a big deal to just switch back to the original , my front sprocket needs replacement anyways . What's the stock sprockets on your Passion-pro ?Originally posted by MotoMan View Post.. the bike would become very annoying on highways ..

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Pinaki sir, since your bike has old type engine the best thing to do is to keep things stock and downshift for overtaking as Ashwin said. Trust me, if you make the final gearing short, the bike would become very annoying on highways.Originally posted by Pinaki View Postofcourse I wasn't expecting to find it in any manufacturer's list for this bike.....
My Passion Pro has shorter 3rd & 4th gears. In city, overtaking anything is a cakewalk for my Pro despite weighing 120kg. Even in 4th gear, just give throttle and it zooms past everything. But this character is its biggest a
Achilles heel on highways. Back in 2016 we had a road trip to Valparai and Pollachi, Tamil Nadu on my Pro and a Y2k Splendor. On the long, straight & empty roads of Pollachi, the old boy Splendor was cruising at 80 kph calmly like its nothing. My Passion Pro was also following at 80, all stressed. It's not the engine but the short gearing & sprocketing was stressing the engine. From 55kph onwards, the effects of shorter gearing are felt. The engine starts revving higher and begs for a 5th gear. It's very annoying. Your bike already has good gear ratios for highway hence its better to keep it stock.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The closest match you have is of the Old CT100 which came with 13T front, newer models come with 14T, same as the Splendor.Originally posted by Pinaki View Postofcourse I wasn't expecting to find it in any manufacturer's list for this bike , but maybe some other bike's 13-teeth would fit ?
Problem with these commuter bikes are that even though there are several 428 pitch sprockets out there the output shaft dia would not match as its smaller, I know cause I tried to install a Unicorn's 15T in my CT100B a few days ago.
Ideally for Balanced power you need your final drive ratio to be 3.00, the Splendor's is slightly over that favoring acceleration even in stock form, if you get the old CT100's kit(i.e if Single Sprocket not Available) then you could shorten it to a drastic 3.60, which would give you better acceleration in top gear at the cost of top speed, I say top gear cause the rest would be way too short to use.I am aware of it
but I need more acceleration torque to overtake the local Activas in traffic , little less top-end doesn't matter for this
Personally, I'd suggest you to keep things stock and drop a gear and redline the motorcycle to overtake but if you're willing to experiment then do keep us posted.
Cheers,
A.P.
