The Splendor engine can use a 20w40 oil as well. I have used a 20w40 oil on my Splendor Pro and it has done some 72,064kms now. I previously used Motul and now have switched to Gulf Pride. Both mineral oil. Veedol 10w40 is a good option as well. You do not need a synth oil on the engine. Draining early is the key. I drain every 2000-2200kms. You've done 9000kms in 2 years, average being 4500kms per year while mine does 10k to 12k kms each year.

My Hero Splendor Plus is 2 years old now. Clocked around 9000KMS. I have been doing all service so far with Hero ASC only, the bike is running with Hero Super Premium 10W-30 OE oil till date, I'm thinking of changing the engine oil to either Castrol, Motul or Shell. Is it wise to use Semi-Synthetic oil in my bike as I will be riding only within city and it has clocked only 9000KMS....

Passion Pro has completed 99,000 kms and still going strong. In the last service, the following works were done.

1, Engine oil replaced (Veedol take off 4T 20w 40)

2, Replaced both the front foot rests. The old ones gave up after using it for 7 years. (Cost Rs. 180 per piece)

3, Replaced the 4 rubbers inside the rear wheel hub since there was a considerable amount of play in the rear sprocket.

4, Drive chain also became full loose after using it for 30,000 kms. It reached the maximum adjustable limit. So, removed 2 links and fit the chain back. It runs good as usual.

    5, Water washed the bike.

Now, the tail lamp is not working. Have to fix that.

this not the first I'm servicing the air-filter and there is a noticeable downfall of the material quality of the foams and their stitching & glue . I always follow the recommended cleaning with kerosene and never use petrol . Using petrol does disintegrate the foams . Anyway if yearly replacement becomes imperative I am considering replacing the air-filter box with that of Splendor-pro and thereby switch to paper-element filter , for much less hassle . Only thing is that the new paper-element filter having much less air-flow may not suit my old engine or ...

Thanks brothers . My bike is going to be ten years this June and I am going over all it's service items now . Cleaned the rotary oil-filter & mesh , replaced oil , throttle cable , new CR6HGP plug , new set of front wheel bearings ( OE) , replaced speedometer pinion kit (OE) , greased the steering bearings with new balls for the last time before subsequent replacement , cleaned and refilled the fork with new oil ( 163ml veedol ) and oil-seals ( hta ) , replaced the battery with new sealed unit from sf-sonic , replaced the flasher with a solid-state flasher from swiss etc . The bike has little chain noise at startup and something seems loose inside the speedo unit which I'll open & check and also planning to replace the front sprocket . Other than these minor niggles it's running splendid , excellent throttle response and fuel mileage is still about 72 kms per lit .

Blindly changing it 3-5k kms is also cost effective. It is on par or slightly cheaper than using/replacing a viscous oil paper filter every 10-12k kms.

P.S. Pinaki, happy to see you back! Keep posting.

Even though that is what the manufacturer recommends, it would be best if you ignore the cleaning part and blindly change at every 5k intervals.

Reason for the same is that though not noticeable to the naked eye, these filters loose their material integrity after every wash cycle and do more harm than good in the long run.

So if I were you I'd urge you to change the AF every 5k km's as I've been doing on my P220 and CT100B.

    Cheers,
    A.P.

Well , one of the main advantage of foam air-filter is that they are re-usable , my owner's manual says to clean every 2000 km and nothing about replacing it . The general recommendation about replacing is when the foam element starts to physically deteriorate or break down , otherwise if they are intact they can be cleaned reoiled and reused indefinitely . My earlier exp with yamaha Rx & Crux , their foam elements were superb quality and never needed replacement in 6-7 years and 46K kms of my use .

    Exchanging is the better option.
