Picture Coverage of SMC Round 4
Thought I'd share some picture coverage of the event with all of you, so here goes...
Fingers (gloves!) crossed, ready to go..

Competitors gather behind the route opener for the controlled recce

The two prime contenders for the Overall Championship, Yogesh Lakhani (right) and Rajan Sidhu (left) silently weigh each other outside the Parc Ferme, before attacking the track.

Yogesh Lakhani gets flagged off for Lap 1. He clearly displayed his intent of pulverizing the competition in this final round of the Championship by setting the fastest lap time of 10:36 in this lap itself

Rajan Sidhu tried really hard to displace Yogesh from his pedestal, and ended the first lap with a second fastest time of 10:46

The surprise in the first lap was sprung by Chirag Thakur from Shimla, a Group D rider who has vastly improved in every round and was displaying speeds here faster than almost all the Group C bikes! He was the third fastest rider of the day of with a time 10:51. Superb riding Chirag!! =D> Here is Chirag negotiating the very slippery downhill tarmac.

Aneesh was here to prove a point, a rider who has taken the Shimla Motorcycle Challenge by storm on a stock Pulsar 180 in his first motor sport event and proved to be a real threat to even the Group C bikes! However an off just before the finish of the first lap pushed Aneesh to a time of 10:57..here he is storming the first downhill tarmac.
[
Rupinder Singh from Solan, another very talented rider and the prime contender for 3rd position in the Group C Championship, set the 4th fastest time of the day (10:53) in the first lap again.

Rupinder's brother, Rominder Singh from Solan, negotiates the slippery tarmac.

Yogesh (01), Rajan (02) and Abhimanyu Sharma (09) await to charge through Lap 2

Abhimanyu tackles the downhill tarmac.

Gaurav Pratap Singh in Lap 2

Another Chandigarh rider who displayed marked improvement in this Round was Sandeep Singh, with some excellent times.

Aneesh continued his Round two woes and broke down in the stage due to electrical trouble. He was flying till that happened.

So he stood by the track and used this opportunity to observe other riders. Here he is watching closely as Piyush Chauhan from Shimla, the rider leading the Himachal Category Championship, fight for grip on the uphill gravel.

Narinder Pal Saini clocks in at the Flying Finish

A newbie, Amritanshu Kalia, surprised everyone with a second placed finish in Group D Open.. this young man has a bright future too!

Another very talented rider from Shimla, Saurav Vyas, running second in the Himachal Category Championship.

As the competitors raced on the track, two very talented riders cooled their heels at HQ, Vivek Arora (in the Yamaha jacket), who busted his foot in Lap 1 and DNF'd and Parminder Thakur, who had a bad fall before Round 3 and volunteered as an official in this Round.

Amardeep Sharma blasts his RX100 on a particularly fast gravel intermediate.

HL Sharma, a veteran rider from Shimla and a true competitor in every sense of the word, proved his skill and talent in the Championship and taught a few things to the many youngsters present. Well done HL jee!! =D>

One rider that had everyone surprised was Shubranjan Singh Thakur, the first competitor to ride a Bullet in the SMC! His lap timings had some of the regular speedguns really worried! A brilliant rider and a true sportsman..well done Thakur Sahib!

Chirag continued to impress with some VERY fast timings, here he is on the gravel uphill.

A rider with consistency and grit is Sunil Chauhan from Shimla, riding to a third place finish in the Himachal category.

A heart-warming sight was of all the children that had lined up on either side of the track to cheer the riders...

A first-timer from Shimla, Nitin Juneja, put up a commendable show to finish 4th in Group D Open in his very first outing!

Yogesh had set the fastest time for the day, and took the remaining laps at a relatively easier pace..here he is negotiating a downhill tarmac hairpin.

Before Aneesh Awasthi rode the final lap ..as the final rider of the day, with the track in the worst condition of the day and the sun setting...and he went ahead and BLAZED the fastest lap time of the day..equaling Yogesh's time to the second on an unmodified bike!
This is Aneesh on the final corner of the final lap of the Shimla Motorcycle Challenge 2008... absolutely brilliant...no other words to describe this final performance.

An Aneesh's bike said it all...
