Such a car is available from the same company but it's branded FIAT.

And also STAR cruiser which is a YAMAHA product does not carry the YAMAHA branding but then it does not mean it does not have a brand Identity. I think dropping the Bajaj name from the pulsar range is a good idea and gives Pulsar a kind of its own exclusivety in a marketting and branding sense.

The recall for Bajaj for the bikes is leagues ahead than for electricals and autorickshaws! At the same time it is prone to get squashed if it delinks the Pulsar brand name from it.

Like I said before, may be Bajaj wants to venture into an array of products and so this may make sense.

TVS on the other hand is one crazy company that has the reputation of making scoots as well as scorchers! Bring on a RTR - "Series" bike, and damn!
Joke: Whats more famous? The Duke or KaTooM! - Neither

The issue was not about the product brand being stronger than the parent brand. The issue was about having the product brand stronger than the parent brand, which has limited lineage of product. In such a scenario (IMO) where the lineage of the product (Pulsar) has got more attention than the parent brand (Bajaj) it is likely for it to have a negative impact on the other products under the brand.
      - Look what the word Pulsar did to xcd135!
Do you want to milk the brand pulsar from 100CC - 600CC? and to make it worse, bikes in 20CC increaments!

TVS on the other hand has two killer brands (actually more if you ask)
      - a scooterete is synonym with scooty!
      - The RTR is brand that killed the dying brand fiero but is now promoted as a "series" with racing DNA blah blah blah!

Bajajs scenario is like having a 3 member team with
      Sachin Tendulkar,
      Satyen Poojary,
And Satyajit.... no matter what we do, it will be SRT hogging the limelight

I hope this results into a few more brands, and that will have to do more than good to stay with the Pulsar...
and does not end up like brand XCD!

I just see stupidity in such a decision by Bajaj because people trust the name Bajaj and new name would grow insecurity among the potential and the existing customers. If the name is changed then the goodwill and the image of the company will crash substantially, subsequently there is every possibility that the profits may fall if they don't maintain the quality of the products they sell. Even a single mistake on their part can be very disastrous for them with a new brand name. When Bajaj is earning the required profits with this name, why the hell the name should be changed?
