HH will keep going for some time by banking on the ubiquitous 100cc engines. This may even force them to set up their own R&D for engines etc.
It's not that they are completely helpless, they make a fair number of parts for BMW/H-D/Rotax. This could turn out to be a good thing.200 | 300 | 1200 BOXER

this was the first thing to hit my mind when i read this news.:POriginally posted by bprags View PostThis might send the hero honda share prices tumbling next week when the market opens.
Dont think so. They carrying a good momentum with them. HH was not all about Honda you see. So a bye-bye-Honda wont create a holocaust for HH. Ya once Honda divert energies to HMIL, competetion will get tough for "Hero India Motors Pvt Ltd" [Originally posted by fast_ferocious View PostI'm afraid I'm smelling the downfall of HH's market dominance !
]. Bajaj also parted their ways with Kawasaki and see where are they today. It would however be interesting to see the new product mix from the company.
many here do as wellOriginally posted by sheelpriye View PostI like this piece of news.

yups. This could turn to be good thing for them. And as a option they can always purchase engines directly from Honda for few more yearsOriginally posted by tanay View PostHH will keep going for some time by banking on the ubiquitous 100cc engines. Honda concentrating only on HMIL would be good for competition for sureOriginally posted by mithun View PostThey should sell the full stake and invest it in Honda India and take HH head-on.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HH is not Bajaj, R&D-wise. They are having one of the lowest investments in it in India !Bajaj also parted their ways with Kawasaki and see where are they today. It would however be interesting to see the new product mix from the company.
So it would make times difficult for them !"The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat" - Lily Tomlin

well AFAIK the bajaj is still with kawasaki. The proof of it can be seen as how the bajaj launched the ninja 250.Originally posted by enfro View PostBajaj also parted their ways with Kawasaki and see where are they today. yupps! Thats waht i mean. One can not compare Bajaj RnD with that of HHOriginally posted by mithun View PostHH is not Bajaj, R&D-wise. They are having one of the lowest investments in it in India !
Yes they both are together but the currents relation is certainly different to what was earlier. I stress here on technical aspects especially the engine and the design. Bajaj brought Pulsar engine after a bye-bye to Kawasaki. Other success stories include the best selling Discover, segment leader Avenger(though design is of Eliminator stillOriginally posted by madhav krishna View Postwell AFAIK the bajaj is still with kawasaki. ), XCD, etc. And dont forget it was after Kawasaki that Bajaj got indulged in experiments, that failed like the hooodibaba bike, decision to shut off their 100cc bikes, etc. That didnt happen with HH. On technical terms I see Bajaj , more close to KTM than Kawasaki.
To be in simple words..all i see is that Hero&Honda, Baj & Kawak part 1 and Baj-Kawak part 2...all three collaboration are distinct and different though they might borrow from each other is varying degrees and aspects

Kawasaki + Bajaj was earlier a technical collaboration and
Currently the collaboration extends only for strategic business interests (like using showrooms and assembly lines).
Also Kawasaki and Bajaj was never a joint venture.

whatsoever, i have seen one thing common in all indian bike manufacturers that every one of them needed to take some support from a bike major. Like the hero took support of honda, the bajaj took support of kawasaki, the tvs took support from suzuki. It is true isnt it?? Every indian company needed an initial support in technology etc from other bike majors.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

That's quite true. Those were the learing years for Indian manufacturing.
Before 1990's the govt. did not allow foreign companies to set up business in India on their own. According to the law at that time, the foreign companies had to tie up with some Indian companies if they wanted to do business in India.
Eg:
in 2 wheelers
1. Kawasaki Bajaj
2. Escorts Yamaha
3. Hero Honda
4. TVS Suzuki
in 4 wheelers
1. Maruti Suzuki
2. Ashok Leyland
3. Swaraj Mazda
It was done to protect the domestic manufacturers from being overrun by the foreign manufacturers and also give them a chance to learn from them as well. India's neighbour Pakistan allowed foreign manufacturers to enter their country much before India after Independence, and see where they are right now.
Luckily for us, some manufacturer's like TVS and Bajaj learnt quickly and now are confident enough to have their own independent R&D.
(You probably are too young and don't have knowledge about the restrictive licence raj days).
