P G Tenzing, the Kerala-cadre IAS officer who quit his job to go on a 25,320-km motorcycle ride across India, died of cancer in his hometown Gangtok on Monday. He was 46.

His travelogue Don't Ask Any Old Bloke for Directions, published by Penguin last year

I had always wanted to travel at random and with only myself for company. Watching my hair grow without combing it. Watching the sunrise and sunset from sea level and from the heights of the Himalayas. Getting my face burnt and my toes wet.
    News approved.

May his soul rest in peace, or maybe he's off to another solo journey.

In his travelogue Don't Ask Any Old Bloke for Directions, published by Penguin last year, Tenzing was more eloquent. "I had always wanted to travel at random and with only myself for company," he wrote. "Watching my hair grow without combing it. Watching the sunrise and sunset from sea level and from the heights of the Himalayas. Getting my face burnt and my toes wet."

Went through the link, and he comes across as a man with a lot of self-respect & values.

May his soul rest in peace.

EDIT: The book sounds like an interesting read. Will probably pick it up over the weekend.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

After reading this article i could connect with the character Christopher McCandless a.k.a Alexander Supertramp from the book by Jon Krakauer also developed into the movie Into The Wild. He would definitely be the real life Alexander Supertramp.

                              What a free soul.

                              RIP.
