Guys, i Still remember that, when i took the delviery of my baby R1 , the sales person has strictly advised me not to keep anything in the side pods.. So i believe this should be spread across all the R15 owners that it should be blocked at any cost

I dont think that could be the reason! I just saw it in the newspaper!

Psst.....i never had a good feeling abt the panjagutta flyover, though it tempts one to rip and cornor nicly! most of the bike and cas do well abv 80kmph on this flyover! This was the flyover which came crashing down and claimed over 7lives when it was being constucted!
It is... but this fire doesnt look anywhere as nasty! was the rider smoking a ciggarete or something :P
Could be a PDI thingy as well..

ive heard that some ppl use to use the vents(???) on the side of the fairing to store stuffs! that had caused some R15's to blow up!YAMAHA then started to fit a Mesh to prevent this...wonder what happened here!

btw there seems to be a burnt cloth lying on the road!

looks like a cloth in the side panel.

The mesh was designed to keep the cloth from touching the engine, but the vent is functional than aesthetical. It is necessary to vent the air going over thru the radiator. IF the air does not get a vent, and is blocked by the cloth, then a few drops of fuel or anything, can ignite it.

Also one more case happened with the dealer in faridabad, the inner cowling was not mounted properly around the radiator, and the heat shielded portion of the inner cowl came in contact with the exhaust pipe ( because it was not installed properly after a service by the mechanic ).

The inner cowl caught fire and burnt the entire right side, something similar to what happened here.

Correct, mostly the dealers inform the R15 owners to not keep the cloth in the fairing, but i have seen some goons still doing it.

I think this system of keeping cloth pieces in crevices of the bike happens only in India.

I had seen a similar incident in which there was the Aaarrrggghh Pundrah[as satyen calls it] whose right was completely burnt. It was a short circuit.
