Homologation is the process of certifying that a particular vehicle is
roadworthy. the vehicle has to match certain specified criteria laid out by the government for all vehicles made or imported in the country. even though the cars and bikes have been homologated in their country of origin, it has to still match all the criteria laid down by the Indian Govt. Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) looks after the homologation in India.

the reason of it being so much controversial is, the Indian law insists for complete homologation, which in turn is a expensive affair for the companies.

                you are welcome bro

it is because, the road conditions in india are not the same as developed countries. also the fuel available here is not the same. the vehicles have to meet certain norms given by the Govt. these things ultimately force the companies to redesign some components or add new components..

for example- addition of metal number plates at front, addition of sarree guard, lower rear mud guard, minimum ground clearance, pollution rules applicable etc.

the companies shy away from this as it is a costly affair, and also hampers the brand image to an extent.
