BMC sanctions Rs 500 cr extra for road repair works in Mumbai
Mumbai, Oct 22 (PTI): The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allocated Rs 500 crore extra for carrying out road repair works in the city, a top civic official has said."The BMC has sanctioned Rs 500 crore extra for the concretisation and asphalting of roads. Of the Rs 500 crore, Rs. 300-350 crore will be spent in concretising the road and Rs 100-150 crore on asphalt roads," Additional Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta said. The BMC had made a budgetary allocation of Rs 900 crore for the roads department for the year 2010-11."As the monsoon has almost withdrawn, the road department is taking up massive maintenance work," Gupta said.According to the civic body, Mumbai has approximately 2,000 km of roads, of which BMC has managed to concrete 500 km from 1983.This monsoon, the BMC faced a lot of flak from various quarters as the roads were badly maintained throughout the season.Of the total budget for the year 2010-11, Rs 40 crore was set aside for pothole repairs. The pothole budget was further increased to Rs 60 crore.

Barack Obama visit: BMC undertakes road repair work in Mumbai !!
Ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken road repair work from the city airport to suburban Bandra and in some parts of south Mumbai.
"We have undertaken repair work on probable stretches where the president will drive from," a senior civic official on condition of anonymity said. The stretches include Mumbai airport road to Bandra, south Mumbai's Nariman Point, Marine Drive, Taj hotel and Peddar Road and Bandra-Worli Sealink," the official said.
"Bad patches and potholes will be filled up and debris will be cleared. Sidewalks and medians will also be painted," the official said.
When asked about the funds to be used, the official said that the civic body, which has allocated Rs25 lakh to all its 24 wards for road works, will be used for carrying out repairs, he added.

Ha, At Last ! But dont know how much of it would go to the pockets of the officials and they will come up with some low quality roads which will get worse during the next monsoon. Nevertheless, hope the situation becomes better and we bikers can have much safer rides in the city
