Hence what I meant was this..
Route it as CKD\SKD to the nearest country. Make it sweeter if that nearest country has a FTA with us and more so if that country is also a parts supplier to Ducati.

When it reaches India, it comes as a CBU from that country!

How about we turn it around a bit... If there's an FTA, manufacture it in India and export it to that country

Then in the next "x" years, il can probably afford one

PS: Pipe dreams... I know... Don't bash me for dreaming

It wouldnt matter to the Indian government..... as CBU or not it depends on the country of origin and not where the bike was assembled....
The Ninja 250 is being imported from Indonesia with which India has a trade agreement but still the duty on it is the same as an R1 or a fireblade because the country of origin is Japan

We are going OT, there is a thread about it.
And nevertheless there are ways to counter this. Even a lot of HD parts are originally made in Asia, but are assembled in the so called country of origin!

I read in an article a couple of months back that most of the automobile majors in the world are planning to make India their export hub these include two wheeler biggies as well.... may be this is what they are referring to... but then again it is just a speculation based on the events...

Never trust them till they quote companies (who, by the way, always are "considering" it)... the economics are different for different companies...

If the CKD/SKD operations actually materialize, our country will be among the rare ones where Japanese & Italian machines would cost neck to neck.

And yes, if given a choice between 1198 and any other litre class, both at same prices, I would choose 1198.
A wet weight of just 170 kgs in a 1.2 Litre class, well, only Ducati can do it.

                  Go Ducati!

if the tax on the ninja is 105% then shouldn't it cost 4lacs instead of 2.7L? someone is wrong here.

cant wait for them to open a showroom here. i'm ready to work for them for free !

Well there can be 2 reasons...
                      1. If original price of ninja is 2.7 lakhs , its not increased cuz its coming under 800 cc segment.. only bikes above 800 cc segment have that duties problem

2.Or may be the ninjas have the duties too.. might be ninja is just worth 1.4 lakhs (in USA it is actually 1.4 lakhs)... so here its is around 3L.. so im now wondering why the custom ppl let out words like only bikes above 800 cc have duties...

Note: so funny they put that duties to prevent competition to indian market. seriously he really thought back then in those times that indians can afford such costly bikes , just a preplanned version to loot money, indian politics..

yes , someone indeed is wrong here. They are ckd's and not cbu's . Hence no 105% duty

Is duty slapped on Market price in a country, or the cost price/selling price before profit etc by the manufacturer?

                              ^^^

I think, if we bring bring a bike ourselves, it is charged on what we have paid for the bike (or whatever the customs deem appropriate)...
Wouldn't it be the same for the manufs (market price from source country)??

PS: I'm sure the customs would not go through the trouble to verify the manufacturers costs before profits... So, apply it on the MRP and earn more
