American pricing for both SuperLow and an Iron 883 @ $7,999 = Rs 3,66,953

Harley's would come cheaper if they HD start assembling motorcycles here in india with heavy localized content...

Went to Tusker Harley here in Bangalore today, to see if I can get anymore details about the Superlow and the Iron 883. They had as much info as thats already out here. It is true that these two models are comming but he does nt know when they'll be here and when they'll be on display here and stuff. He taken my contact details and said he'd call me when they have the Iron 883 on display. And the good man there at the showroom let me kick my leg over a Sportster 883 and a 1200XL. He kinda like held the front wheel between his knees and propped the bike straight and had me put me feet over the rests to get a feel of the riding position. Oh boy you feel like an emperor mounted on one. I ve ridden a bullet or two in my time and if that feels Royal this feels like world Domination.

Buy her a bus pass ? , it could be me who would be traveling by bus if i ever say that to her...

But you know, in the end of the day, it's ok, cause i know, it's she who likes to be with me everytime i am not at office.. (Enough OT and emotional drama)

Straight forward answer, the home authorities don't allow vehicles for lone fun, there is a reason we started family, and that is to be with each and abide by law... (getting my drift ?? )

            I know...I know...just yanking your chain

Single seat isn't an option for many but I guess it gives you an excuse to get TWO bikes and get her riding as well. Much more fun this way if both of you ride and have a Cardo headset to communicate. Most biker couples I know love touring together but riding on their own.

Seriously - I am amazed that you can get two of these bikes for the price of one SBK. You can get the Iron 883 + a Ninja 250R for the missus for the price of a Bandit or Monster 796.

Funny thing is I suspect the Ninja 250R will be the faster of the two bikes

Well i was recently suggested to upgrade to Ninja 250R and later upgrade to car for good (Forget the sbk forever ) ... I am holding my R15, so that i might convince her for 600CC next year...

I think they priced the 2 model differently in India just to differentiate them because no one would chose superlow if priced similar to iron883,otherwise I don't see any other reason. They also know that demand will be high and it would sell whatever price they quote....remember the waiting period of ninja250r.

Not sure if this info is shared somewhere... We are going to have international specs. Iron 883 in US is having different spec to UK and India. For example, Iron 883 in US has a ground clearance of 100mm vs 120mm in UK/India.

The Iron 883 is what I aim to get by year end.
Must say, these prices have opened up an even bigger market now.

TO ALL THOSE YOU HAVE BOOKED OR PLANNING TO BOOK HARLEY DAVIDSON IN INDIA

This is a update on CKD bikes in India

US cult bike maker Harley Davidson today said it will not hike prices of its two models to be assembled in India despite an increase in import duty for completely knocked down (CKD) parts.

The company, which is setting up an assembly unit at Bawal in Haryana, said it is evaluating options in the wake of the new CKD norms that has resulted in higher import duty....We are firm in honouring our commitment to our dealers, customers and enthusiasts across India, and are delighted to announce that we will maintain our current prices on our CKD models, the Iron 883 and SuperLow, for this calendar year," Harley-Davidson India Managing Director Anoop Prakash told PTI.

In December, the company had announced that the SuperLow and Iron 883 will be the first two models to be rolled out of the CKD assembly facility in Bawal in Haryana. The bikes are priced at Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.

These models will be available across the five Harley Davidson dealerships, in addition to the existing model line-up in 2011. Its other 12 fully imported bikes in India are priced between Rs 7.50 lakh and Rs 34.95 lakh.

Prakash said at present the company is assessing what strategy would it adopt going forward.

"Regardless, we remain committed to the Indian market for the long-term and will now evaluate whether we invest in adapting our operations to the new CKD standards or manage our business to the higher duty rate," he said.

In the Budget 2011-12, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee introduced a new definition regarding CKD kits imports that excluded pre-assembled engine, gear box, transmission and chassis from its purview.

This resulted in increased customs duty to 60% for these critical components. It was later revised to 30%.

"We respect the government's decision, even while we had shared our view that the increase in duties at this time may affect the development of the leisure motorcycling segment," Prakash said.

In November 2010, Harley Davidson announced to start assembling bikes in India from this year. The US iconic brand was allowed to enter India in 2007 with relaxed emission norms for big bikes above 800cc, while mangoes from here were allowed to be sold in America.
