Boxer in low cubic capacity segment with a price tag about 40k & its sturdiness makes much more sense to me..other then that let's see what response it'll get..
When you have very very strong 10-16 year (100cc) old brands like Splendor, CD Dawn, CD Deluxe.. Can one expect to launch "another" 100 cc economiser and hope for sucess..?? One has to differentiate to get eyeballs/enter into the consideration set of consumers.

Also rugged body with a 100 cc engine has been explored by the TVS Max 4R. The Max 4R has a 100 cc, with looks of a utility bike. Now how successful have the Max 4R been when there are already very very strong brands like Splendor/CDDeluxe/CD Dawn to choose from?

A 150 cc engine will obviously have much more torque than a 100 cc bike and the 150 cc tag could also make the Boxer150 stand apart from the 100 cc crowd. One will have wait for time to see if "Bharat" can see ahead of the 100 cc economisers.

P.S:By the way I also see an Electric Starter on the "Bharat" bike.

ya for sure it'll generate more power..but by the way it looks i guess its meant for those people who are looking for more KMPL rather then more KMPH..rest all depends on the response it'll get, if it gets good response then i'll be glad that people in rural area also are upgrading themselves & getting more powerful machines..

A 150 cc engine doesn't just mean that it has to be at par with a R15 in terms of KMPH. But a 150 cc means that the "torque" (pulling capability) can be easily bumped up.

Apart from KMPL rural (Bharat) folks also need "Torque" in a lot in the applications, like pulling "doodh" cans, pulling 3-4 adults (not legal but very common everywhere) etc. There has been earlier mention of the Boxer150 as a tractor/tank on 2wheels, none of which are made for KMPH but more for "Torque".

By the way the Discover 150 returns pretty respectable fuel efficiency figures and the engine block on the Boxer 150 looks to have been borrowed from the Discover 150. Therefore it would be premature to pass the verdict that the Boxer 150 would return dismal fuel efficiency.

choices might differ from person to person, for me it does not have a balance between price, power & mileage for a rural Indian..

whatever need they have is fulfilled by present bikes so why will they spend more for this when it'll return lesser mileage then a 100cc bike? the torque & power they are getting from a 100cc bike with better mileage is enough as far as i can guess & even though if someone would like to get a powerful machine & will go for Boxer150, i don't think no.s of buyers like these will be huge..rest we'll see the response it'll get..

Cant really understand, why are the bike makers targeting the rural customers to bring back their old horses!!... (MAX 4R & BOXER).
For the rural market, there could only be a moped like a XL super. At this higher price point, they also deserve good looking urban bikes, not these aged bikes.

Why cant one doodhwala enjoy his doodh delivery and some spirited riding while at it... He deserves to be ahead of the competition by having a faster 0-60 time, shaving off a few seconds of the minutes it would take him to reach top speed. Making sure his milk gets delivered, faster and not to forget fresher!!!

The old Boxer sold because of the RACE engine ( all Kawasaki ), This is all BACE engine. ( Bajaj ). Reliability and durability are gonna be the only Achilles heel in this package.

My offerings to the gods of speed -

                  - KTM Duke 200
                  - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

They obviously can enjoy it but the point is will they spend more for this need or will stick to the available options..or even if they want a 150cc bike then why not SZ?? its almost in same price bracket..

                        Baja M80

I can imagine that some days Bajaj will come out with their revamped Xtra CC Bajaj M80.

I fail to understand why people in this forums quote such long posts...
It's highly inconvenient for people with cellphones and low bandwidth...

                          @Topic:-
I loke the looks of the boxer, i just hope it will be a super strongly built bike, which is what matters the most.

You are failing to understand that target group for Boxer will never be looking at SZ. They would like something powerful with sturdy looks.

                              1) Power/Torque
                              2) Mileage
                              3) Ruggedness and reliability
                              4) Price.
In that order is what the rural populace apparently looks for, as quoted by a friend who is into marketing (I have no reason not to agree with him). So, this might actually work. But is the single spark plug a measure of cost cutting?
But if it can give a mileage of anything above 60 and can achieve a top speed of anything above 90, I think it can even do some decent numbers in Urban areas as well.
Some of the Happiest people in the world don't have everything. They just make the best of everything life brings their way !!! Stay happy, Smile always :)

All the manufacturers are busy launching 'refreshed' old models for rural customer. But, why they are not thinking of introducing 'Step-thru' bikes? They will be very convenient for rural people who mostly shop from nearby city and go to their town.

These 'Step-thru' bikes are very popular in Indonesia and companies like TVS have it there in their portfolio. So, why hesitate to bring them here?
