i agree.. Imagine a bunch of drunk friends landing up at such a pump!!! and start playing with the petrol!!!Originally posted by diffuser911 View PostReally? Give the nozzle into the hands of the morons? I have seen my 'educated' friends light a cigarette right in front of the filling machine while sitting in the car being topped up. So rest assured that the rest of the lot will be intelligent enough.
PS: Now disgruntled in-laws can bring their daughter-in-laws to the fuel station, swipe a card, and you know the rest of the story.
PPS: May sound offensive, but read the news and you will find that people like that exist.
Also what happens to the rule that bottled, or fuel in containers will not be filled and sold????

I dont think the guys at the pump cheat by NOT resetting to 0.Dont they rig the machine?Originally posted by eliksir View Postprobably everyone will reset to 0 before filling and will get the exact amount of fuel.

But on a serious note... Are we, the Indian public, mature enough to be handed a fuel station to ourselves...?Last edited by j4zb4; 08-29-2011, 11:59 AM."stay hungry, stay foolish."

There has to be some point to start, why not consider opportunity to start with? Maturity comes with experience; there will be initial hicups, but, we will learn eventually. If I'd such a fuel station that's less than 10 Kms from my home, I don't mind going there to refuel for my vehicles. I literally HATE the attendant based fuel station these days.Originally posted by j4zb4 View PostIs the Indian public mature enough to be handed a fuel station to themselves...?
They ask you to move front even before the guy in front of you has not closed the lid; they ask you to make way for someone behind you even before you close the lid; they don't like payments by cc; some of them don't fill to close paise but round of to nearest Re; some of them want to round up to the amount even if you don't have tank capacity. I'm tired of listening to these excuses!!!
BTW, I didn't talk about short fuelling tricks!!!Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

you are wrong.works on pre pay basis as said by jzb...Originally posted by ttusharz View Posthow will be the cash payment method ???
SAY - you have to pay cash on counter & person will give you coupon of that amount & you have to insert in machine ???
If so, then there will be another RATION ka line on bunks.
Please correct me if im wrong.
yes & no.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostGood initiative. And as for the employment, it could also increase employment by using technically educated people for the purpose of handling the R&D, implementation, production of equipment, etc.
It's a new system, and obviously someone will implement it. So, employment persists although only for the technically qualified enough.
+1. It should have happened much earlier itself.
it's an old system we implemented 5 years back.but for reasons mentioned earlier w.r.t employment & customer benifit this mode is not activated
nothing related to honesty.checks & measures ensure payment.Originally posted by aargee View PostIt seems to be the same method followed in developed countries; one needs to fill in the fuel pump as desired & then, there's a billing machine that generates & prints out the bill the moment the nozzle is put back to the pump. The fuel pump also accepts card (credit/debit) to make the payment. Its upto the honesty of the customer to make the payment!!!
OK.
since I handle one of the similar projects for an Oil company here's a few inputs:
the advantages are thus for manned or unmanned stations having automation:
To consumers:ffice
ffice" />>> - Assurance of quality and quantity of the product (fuel) being dispensed.
- Facility to use a variety of payment methods (cash, debit/credit card, loyalty card) right there at the pump
- Oil companies may even permit cashless transactions and self-service mode of operation by the vehicle owners.
- An extension of the automation system would also control the operations of the Convenience store located at the retail outlet, a car wash or any other value-add service that may be provided by the retail outlet dealer.
>> - Better retention / increase its market share through greater customer loyalty
- Ability to offer various loyalty programs to fleet owners
- Improvement in retail station operational efficiency and asset utilization
- Ability to study demand of various products and loads at various outlets to take tactical and strategic marketing decisions regarding petroleum retailing.
- Access to online data which will help monitor / prevent fraudulent practices.
>> - Identification of Attendants(DSM) for each transaction
>> - Any DSM can operate any pump with cash accountability for individual Transaction
>> - Accounting for each mode of payment; pump wise, DSM wise
>> - Reduction in fuelling transaction time for Customers paying through cards
>> - Credit Customer/ Big accounts billing Stock, sales, loss/gain.
>> - Banking reports.
>>
>>
>All automated outlets have options to convert into unmanned ones by altering the transaction flow.>
>these convert roughly to around 12-15 k outlets in India considering all 3 major oil companies.>
>>
>There's a whole lot more to this but this should suffice for time being
>

Hi DK,Originally posted by darkknight View Postyou are wrong.works on pre pay basis as said by jzb...
I'm not sure if that is the case. What if I want to make the tank full..not sure how much left in that tank. Wherever I traveled in US or Aus, you pay after you fill it (either by card or cash). The laws are so strict that you just can't run away from it (especially when you are not a resident).
Somewhere I feel that not all the stations will be unmanned. Only few of them in the pump will be auto the rest will be operated by attendants.
Also I believe all the auto pay station will be based on credit/debit card pay.

quite correct --post pay mode too works on the same principle as you apply in a retail store or a restaurant.Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostHi DK,

that is the mode which is operational now--refer to coco rto in pune done by us --only in this case attendants are doing it & w.r.t unmanned stations you will need to do it.
for cash though you need to go & pay the cashier in the c store or otherwise.
the running away thing exists even now with all attendants in place -- you will be shocked to see that happens sometimes at retail outlets in india
