@mods: can we have a dedicated thread to report 2-wheeler riders death in accident? So that by the end of year we could have a certain number of people dying in accidents with helmet on or without it. Just a little survey. In that we could identify the cause of the accidents. It'll help to raise awareness between us and among others.

Earlier, I tried to get some Xbhp guys to do a training program for new Sbk owners by posting in Azharuddin's son and nephew's news thread, but they just posted some objections (about how it can't be done), and I replied to them saying that I will help the best way I can, over the internet. But then their replies never came...

If we can't do something about the situation, chatting about it on Xbhp won't help anyone.

@ lockhrt999: Its impossible to statistically account accidents because some are never reported to the media or police, or not reported correctly.
And even if we have such a thread, it will only prove one thing- "helmets save lives" which we already know better... so, what's the point?

@samarth: I meant we could figure out common causes of accidents such as bad roads, reckless driving, govt etc,. Linking the info that's scattered across the India.

I think it is unfair to speculate whether he was wearing a helmet or not given the article. Time for a rant, Im not targetting anyone here, Im just posting based on my couple of years on Indian forums.

Everytime there is an incident like this, people post the details of the accident but it remains keyboard warrior stuff. None of this matters out there in the real world unless we make an effort to educate people about the importance of safety. Posting a passionate backed by number post here will ensure that the message gets reinforced to the people reading our forums (bear in mind that these are the knowledgable bikers who would usually wear a helmet anyways). What about the 99.9% of bikers out there who dont read our forums and dont usually wear a helmet?

I think the only way to make a difference is to do something concrete. I have tremendous respect for our xbhp teams who have conducted helmet awareness campaigns. I had tried to travel to Trivandrum just for their campaign but the logistics didnt work out. Even if all those hours of effort and planning resulted in say 5 people starting to ride with a helmet more often, if not always, then our guys have made a real difference in this world. Of course, helmet awareness campaigns arent the only thing that can be done but I personally feel its the most effective method. As Samarth said chatting about it on xbhp doesnt help anyone.

I believe that helmets are compulsory in Delhi. Following may be a controversial statement - Also no amount of riding gear / helmet will save you in case of high speed crash. If you hit someone/something, the impact is much more than if you fall down at high speeds.

The news item states that he was riding a Fazer. Last time I checked, Fazer is not a SBK.

Mods atleast we can have a dedicated thread so that we don't endup having 100 new threads a year just for the same thing, and the message is already loud and clear, mostly all these death threads have the same message.

If we club all together everyone can just come in and drop the RIP & Condolences on it

My message is that we should do something instead of smoking cigarettes and munching parathas at G2G's.

Accidents are accidents whether they happen on Sbk's or normal Indian bikes. If we're not doing anything, what's the point of chatting your life away on Xbhp?
If we start with Sbk owners, we might get normal performance bikes owners too, in our training sessions.

@ lockhrt999: I see. Yes, what you said is possible... Broadly, we can give some categories to accidents:

                      1. Stunt/ World Record attempts gone wrong,
                      2. Gone from road to off road at high speeds, because someone was driving more towards the wrong side (esp. on narrow roads)
                      3. Cornering mishaps (ran too wide, leaned too much, lost the front end, etc.)
                      4. Crashed with oncoming traffic while overtaking,
                      5. Obstacles coming in way (cow, dog, pigs, pedestrians, etc.)
                      6. Nervous or uncooperative Pillion causing an inbalance,
                      7. Mechanical Failure, Punctures, etc.
                      8. Changing lanes without care or without seeing RVM's,
                      9. Road Rash,
                      10. Something else crashing into stationary vehicle, like a bike stalled in middle of train tracks, parking lot crash, etc.
                      11. 3 way/ 4 way Crossing: Mistake of anticipation (who goes through first, etc.)
                      12. Losing grip while braking/ acceleration,
                      13. Taking a right hand corner directly, without going circling the chowk/ circle, etc.

Are there any more possible scenarios?

                              R.I.P. young rider.

I do not know whether he was wearing a helmet or not but I recon he wasn't.

What I do not understand is why can't wearing a helmet be made compulsory across India? Is it so difficult? If they can have this rule in Mumbai, they can have it everywhere.

People would wear a helmet for sure, may it be to avoid the cops or to protect oneself. In either case, it would save lives. I think this is the fastest way to make people wear a helmet.
Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)
