If they want to get a 645cc bike here, they'll have to get it homologated. That means one year delay and above 1 million rupees cost. Plus the Indian authorities are so proud, they'll find some defects in it: Its polluting/ noisy, Get it detuned, get its horns replaced, change this/that, etc.
Actually, the authorized japanese bike dealers selling superbikes are way safer than a single brand dealer like Ducati, Aprillia, HD etc. coz the dealers day to day running/profits will come from the sales/service of hundreds of commuter bikes, while a few sales of big bikes comes as a bonus.
But this homologation rules, cost & time seems to be something where the manufacturer has to visit heaven to take the blessings of god before coming back to earth & sell them in India. Our stupid rules & pathetic bureaucracy.

Well, it says so in the Indian law, that an Indian made 2 wheeler must have a Saree guard. The same is checked in the homologation of the vehicle.Originally posted by vikhyath View PostCompletely OT:
Why is saree guard compulsary??
800cc+ CBU's evade it as they don't need homologation. Shortcut, isn't it?

@ Haroon: Completely agree with you. In fact, in some of my earlier posts, I emphasised that the Japanese companies who're here for decades are much more safer in these products, than Kawasaki and Harley..
Why does maximum CKD motorcycle work happen in "not so expanded" companies like Garware, HD & Kawasaki? Because probably, the ones working here since decades think more like "businessmen", than "bikers", who knows?---

I'd really doubt that a 800 cc engine will need 3.7 litres of engine oil!! Most likely that is the fuel tank capacity in gallons, which is the unit used a lot in the US!! 3.7 gallons wuould roughly equate to 17 litres of fuel.Originally posted by Night_rider View PostWTF...!!!!

Such imported bikes do require about 3L of oil minimum. So, 3.7L ain't that far off from 3.Originally posted by sukant08 View PostI'd really doubt that a 800 cc engine will need 3.7 litres of engine oil!! See this link:
INTRUDER M800 / SUZUKI BOULEVARD M50 Specifications : MOTORCYCLE | GLOBAL SUZUKI
It says: Oil Capacity (overhaul): 3.7L (1.0 US gal.). So, its probably a real figure... About 4 cans required per oil change. Damn!
I wonder why its taking so much oil. Is this M800 a down scaled version of an existing bigger engine?

@Samarth +1 Even the GT650R takes 3.7liters of engine oil.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

^^ I take back my word!! Ya, actually the 250s do take in around a litre of engine oil!! So I guess its entirely conceviable that 800s will take 3.7litres !!
I was reading up an article on middle catogary cruisers on motorcycle.com (cant find the link now, will update it later). The suzuki actually came on top in that shootout, which included some rather popular bikes like the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 and Honda Shadow!! They said it was the most sporty of the lot, with the best handling!! So I'd assume it is indeed a good bike in its own. Its just that, whether its so good that it justifies the 10 odd lakh OTR price remains to be seen!!Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!

Doing an overall analysis for one last time:
ST7 and HD will make this even tougher for M800 to survive in front of "Cruisers only" customer.
And for the other bikers, its easy to choose the acceleration king CB 1000R or the street based 150 PS naked R1. All for the same price. And they're all litre+ class bikes, unlike this M800.
EVEN YET, a conservative commuter/ tourer might still go for Bandit 1250...
Damn, the future of M800 at this price looks grim...?
Even Bike India were anticipating a price of 5-6 Lacs Ex-showroom. What happened then I wonder?Last edited by Samarth 619; 12-12-2011, 08:17 PM.---
