  • Diesel Motorcycle: M1030-M2 670cc JP8

Came across in piece of info on diesel motorcycle being undertaken by ALTIUS with their corporate office in Chennai.

The M1030-M2 670cc JP8 is the latest incarnation of the superlative military motorcycle standing alone as the only military motorcycle capable of operating on JP8, JP5, JP4, AVTUR, JET-A1, Diesel and even Biodiesel. Evolved from HDT's M1030-M1 originally developed and produced for the U.S. Marines in 2004, the M1030-M2 670cc JP8 utilizes the E670-4.500 heavy fuel motorcycle engine with patent pending MAC-CiTM Advanced Multi-fuel Technology producing 20% more power over previous generations. The M2's refined chassis with newly engineered swing arm improves handling while its 5 speed transmission and updated suspension enhance ridability. All new high performance illumination including standard IR and blackout lighting improve tactical performance. An updated exhaust system meets more stringent noise and emission regulations while still maintaining peak performance.

The 2010 M1030-M2 670cc heavy fuel powered military motorcycle with MAC- CiTM Advanced Multifuel Technology has multiple patents pending and represents a breakthrough in military ground vehicle technology.

        Awesome stuff..

Would be good if they include mag wheels instead of spoke type.. otherwise the designing is good..

Good for the Army use & they can afford as well. nice move by the company.

This definitely is not for Indian 'mango man' (aam aadmi?) for whom bikes are for commute & diesels are for economy, which this one's price or frugality does not qualify. It would take an Indian-ized version to be appealing for mango public with some 50% cut in Power, torque figs & resultant adjust in cc, mileage & price correction. Still it betters most bikes here, even matches the RE bullet.

Most of the public takers at that price would buy for poser value. Performance, handling etc are at different turf but why a heavy diesel for that. Only one Q' how much power does one need to commute-tour-trip or whatever? Just my 2p.

Everything is the specs is understandable, but why the hellish 1481mm wheelbase? An all purpose vehicle shouldn't be like that.
But ground clearance @ 210mm is decent for slight off roading.

So, its due for launch next year, but at what price? I would pay 1-1.5L easily depending on the company's name, service network, diesel engine's comfort level, competition at that time, etc.

The design is entirely taken from Kawasaki and with permission i guess, they have just designed the engine...

A little more info .. Did i read 1.75 Lacs anywhere ???... , its quite a bike for the amount that you pay.. i hope the Vibes are controlled and are manageable and not like Taurus Diesel Bikes... Where along with the bike each and every bolt of the rider also needs to be tightened every 300 kms... !!

2012 release with the price tag of Rs.1.5-1.75 lakh

The Indian two-wheeler market is bustling with options, but if you look at the tourer/off-road bike segment you will find a gaping void. Altius Automotive Technologies (AAT) a new player in the Indian two-wheeler market plans to fill just that gap with their 670cc diesel powered off-road bike the Scimitar.

The bike is named after a Middle Eastern swordRs.1.5-1.75 lakh price670cc liquid cooled engine of the Altius Scimitar produces 33bhp of power at 5700 rpm and 5.4gkm of torque at 3300 rpm. The engine is wedded to a 5-speed gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift schememileage of 46.6 kmpl when ridden at a constant speed of 90 kmph and has a 14 litre fuel tank.Courtesy: DWS

Looks promising for sure & this bike will be the most preferred ride for the Ladakh tours !!!

now this is really a news............
the only things special in this bike is -
                              1) its ability to run on a variety of fuels.
                              2) 60% gradability
                              3) off road kinda bike with a long range.

i think people will purchase it for its poser value, and for that i like the military version more than civilian version.

i guess refiniment will not be on the top of priorities of manufacturer, and don't be surprised if you get a bke with lot of vibes.

it was designed with a basic requirement that the bike should run on any of the commonly available fuels with army, and of course it must have teh capabilities of an off-road tourer. and the result is this bike.

i think for bikers like us, it can prove to be a good tourer as touring in india often means a fair amount of offroading. it has off-roading kinda stance with a long wheelbase. and big fuel tank, compared to off roaders.

btw, i am curious about what is the tray like thing at the back of seat???
