Great. This is just as stupid as setting a uniform speed limit all across the city.

They should setup these cameras and manually monitor for reckless driving instead of uniformally dishing out fines and jailtime. Gives cops soemthing to do while growing their belly....may even create new jobs.

Hope this doesnt trickle down to bangalore. We are already harassed by interceptors with speedcams, parked on downhill roads and waiting to pounce on anyone going even at 51kmph.

          lol.

I love them though....I get my kicks out of pretending to do some motocross style hops and jumps over most that i encounter.

sadly, thats probably going to be the only fun to be had on a bigger bike inside the city, if this camera stuff and the heftier fines come into effect.

I think it is a good move provided they rework the speed limits

Why spend on camera's and stuff and then waste time of people and govt/courts who are already short on time.
+1. And I am serious. Why spend anything on road infrastructure if your (Govt) aukad is still 40/50kmph?

Also, I would want to see a corollary to this rule. If 40kmph is the max what is the lower limit? They should define a lower limit also atleast on expressways/highways where the max limit is 80 or above. If one doesn't drive/ride at or above lower limit he/she should be jailed.

Exactly!!! And out of all the top developing countries (Brazil, China, Russia) I don't think such a ridiculous speed limit would be enforced. Or is it? The last I heard was China has highway speed limit of 70 Kmph including trucks.

Like someone said right, why bring all those 650, Liter class motorcycles or cars like Audi, Merc & BMW or even Volvo & Merc buses? For show off is it? Wouldn't the production control be easier to enforce such things? Like no motorcycle beyond 50cc & if FI & high compression with LC, then the CC limit is only 30cc so that no one can even make replacement ECU for performance!!!

The next move by our beloved govt. would be to restrict all motorcycles regardless of capacity to 7 bhp in order to make the roads "Safer".

Yes that's safe bet; right from Hunk to Hayabusa, all will be tailor made to 7 Bhp for Indian market

Oh!!! & yes, devesh38's idea can be implemented; ignore the roads & thus minister's can buy private copter's to ferry from Valsad to Manor. This way, there can be another potential for scam on buying the copters.

PS - Another probability for scam is to write accounts for roadless road maintenance

The govt has enough ideas for scams....us road users need some help scamming the govt though.

Guys, that's the benefit of living in a small city. You don't have to wrestle rules made for posers. You talking about being jailed at 50-60 kmph? I can do 110 everyday to the college route. And even 200 kmph is possible, if one is on the Sbk's. THAT TOO SAFELY without anyone in sight.

The roads are heavenly good and the traffic is sparse on the outskirts where my university is. The sweeping corners have made my skill increase manifold times. I'm almost touching knees on my Pulsar everytime. Reminds me of the Isle of Man TT.

My advice to people from big cities is that if you're extremely fed up, then sell your Delhi Apartment for Rs. 2 crores or so, and go to a small peaceful city like mine, buy a large bungalow for Rs. 50-60 Lacs or an apartment for Rs. 15 Lacs (its damn possible), pay property tax and invest the rest of the money in banks, and start living lavishly on the interest.

This way, population will also be better spread somewhat. These big cities are attracting people like magnets. They can't hold it anymore! Problems are bound to arise if this continues on and on.

they really need to look at speed limits before enforcing this rule ... even by late 90's standards they are ridiculously outdated. Probably set up in early 1900's for steam driven vehicles ... SERIOUSLY not applicable today!!!

                              Cheers
