The D200 barely manages 250-300 Kms at the max, naturally I doubt if the 390 would be able to do more than 200 Kms. While that is not that big a problem for the urban commuter, I don't know how will I be able to adjust to the downgrade from my current 550-650 Kms range to this!

Fingers crossed for a touring duke with a larger tank!
Since you are a well known tourer on xBhp, what kind of bike would you look for to upgrade from your current 220? Would the bigger Pulsar interest you?

I'm not sure how it works...but before an Indian bike is launched in Nepal, it was definitely launched in India 2-3 months beforehand. But this time around, KTM Nepal has announced that it will be launching the 390 by May. So, hopefully, it is the same in India as well.

    .....

For India KTM has committed a new model launch every six months. While the Duke 390 is slated to hit Bajaj-appointed KTM showrooms later this year, a full faired version of the existing Duke 200 and later a full faired version of the Duke 390 will also come in.

Also as per Stefan Pierar the Huskies will be coming to India in 2 yrs. Source :

    Faired version

There are rumours that the faired version may be based on 250 cc architecture rather than the D390, as originally thought.
Stefan Pierer talked about this at the time of launch of the D200 as well. After that, the message got lost in the clamor of 200/390 nakeds.

It makes logical sense too, you see..It could be based on the MotoGP bike that KTM introduced recently.

The difference between the 390 & the 200

Here is a interview from the guy who knows about the engines on KTMs bikes- and explains the difference between the 200 and the 390. It is explained why the 390 comes out to be a bit more expensive. For example, forged components, like the piston in this case, are more expensive to make but are built to last.

"There are two bases. The 125 and 200 share the same base but with a different bore. The 390 is a completely different engine but the architecture is more or less the same as the smaller displacement Dukes. It is bigger. The crankshaft and clutch and the gearbox are bigger because there is more torque. The piston is not cast, it is forged and the cylinder is also different. From a technical point of view there are some things on the 390 that work out to be more expensive simply due to the fact that the bike has more power..."

The launch keeps getting pushed. It started with December 2012 launch with deliveries starting Jan 2013 and it stands at April Launch with May delivery after being postponed several times. :\

Wish list for ktm 390 faired version:

Sitting position not too radical. would prefer something like R15 version 1.
    Comfortable seat and suspension.
In other words, usable for touring. European makers are notorious for making their bikes too radical. I believe it will be a great sports bike, but want it to be practical also. if not, I am happy naked version is being launched, strap a soft comfortable seat on it.

I'm desperately waiting for KTM 390 faired version. Heard the only changes will be fairings from that of the RC8

yes it was in news that KTM may launch a faired 390 first in india, but now it seems the naked is coming first.

Well all the talk has been about the duke 390 (naked version). Can anyone throw some light on the 390 (faired version) which will look like the RC8. Heard that they are going to launch the faired version first in india, because indians prefer faired bikes more than the naked ones. Can anyone share something on it....
