i don't know in which city do you live but here in Delhi i see plenty of stunners around me & i hope that its sales won't go down much even if it'll a bit..new discover has better specs but those who buy stunner buy it only for its looks, not because of power otherwise they have options like P135ls from existing stable of bajaj..& also 150cc bikes with few extra k's..

              Simple comparison between siblings

Source: Discover 125 / 150 official Webpages and launch Data.

Speculative Inference: The block of the 125ST seems unchanged from the 125 DTSi, only changes in the engine are the modified cam, cooling and the 4-Valve head leading to peak power and torque higher up in the rev range. Also, I don't see very many exotic bits added to the Discover 125ST as compared to the Discover 125 DTSi (apart from the monoshock of course). The price increase should also be marginal and should be pretty close to the Discover 150 DTSi (which has bigger front disc and battery). Kinda makes the Discover 150 a bit redundant. Even though it happens to be my favorite Bajaj Bike at the moment, I don't see it being continued for very long now.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

There was a time when 150cc bikes used to give 12 bhp or so. And there was a time when revving a torquey commuting bike beyond 6000 rpm, made you famous as "Street-Fart-er" or "The Mechanic's favorite customer".

But today, we have a 125cc "Commuting" bike making 13 bhp, that too at 9000 rpm. That too with Monoshocks?!

Although, I'm skeptical as to how often will a commuter rev his bike upto 9000 rpm or even 7000 for that matter, but times have definitely changed. That's for sure.

And I do wish that atleast the Pulsars should be ported to a new chassis with monoshocks, as soon as possible. Because, the Pulsar owners need it more than the commuters.

From the above comparo i do not see much difference in the two 125cc siblings. In fact new ST makes it's peak power/torque at much higher rpm and weighs 6kg extra . Won't this mean better driveability for the older sibling in city?

It has to be seen how far the sports tourer distances itself from older D125 in terms of sales. I feel they should not co-exist.

125 hits peak power at 9000RPM, therefore if the engine is free revving like gladi, It will be better than 150 in tech but of course 150cc is150cc and will remain the best Discover ever

                        1. Tech wise meaning, both engine's make similar power but the 125 makes it at a higher rpm (which is ideally not required for a commuter bike).
                        2. Since the engine displacement is more for the 150, it'll run stress free as compared to the 125.
                        3. The 125 weighs more than the discover 150.
                        4. The 150 has a bigger front disc too, the contact patch must be more too.

Oh yes, even I felt the same and wanted to post the same but couldn't remember the Suzuki bike's name.

                            Official Press Release
New Delhi, May 14, 2012: Bajaj Auto, the world’s third largest motorcycle company today launched the ‘Discover 125 ST” designed to add a whole new dimension to the commuter segment.

Elaborating on the company strategy, Sanjay Saraswat, GM Marketing, said that for too long the average commuter had to be satisfied with boring bikes.

The new Discover Sports Tourer (ST) is all set to change this in a dramatic fashion.

With the styling and performance of a sports bike, yet with the comfort and economy of a commuter bike, the “Discover ST” aims to redefine commuting from “Chalta Hai “to “Daudta Hai”.

Powered by Bajaj’s patented “DTS-i Twin Spark” technology, for the first time in this category, the engine is designed with 4 valves. The Bike delivers a record 13 PS of power, highest in the 125cc category, without compromising on fuel efficiency.

Bajaj Auto’s patented “ExhausTec” Technology enhances drive-ability.

A five speed gear box ensures optimum power delivery, coupled with good fuel efficiency.

Complementing the performance is a very sporty styling.

The bike is defined by a chiseled muscular fuel tank.

An aggressive fairing with sharp edged headlamp underlines the sporty look.

Slender ribbed alloy wheels along with aluminum side sets add to the aesthetics.

Comfort takes a new dimension with another first - a “Monoshock Nitrox Suspension”’

A specially designed “Anti Vibration” frame ensures an enjoyable ride across all terrains.

Another first is the “Petal Disc Brake” enhancing safety.

Commenting on the launch K Srinivas, President - Motorcycle Business, said, “We believe that the average Indian commuter has to compromise a lot for fuel efficiency. With the Discover ST we are making a statement that mileage need not come with boring design and outdated features.

He further added, “The Sports Tourer is an everyday fun ride to work. We believe that the sporty evolution of the commuter category will occur fast, and it is our intention to dominate this segment by introducing such breakthrough products.”

I feel Bajaj is killing the exclusivity of those wheels by plonking them onto commuter bikes.
Probably the first time i actually like a Bajaj product because of the feature its offering.. and hoping its still priced around the same outgoing model or a little on the higher side

Entire Pulsar and Discover are two different lines for Bajaj. Pulsars always have a different costlier gear plates, engines and transmission et al which should translate into it being of better quality.

This discover seems to be a real beauty, moreover I believe 135 would soon be taken out given the extension of Discover all the way from 100-150
