Delhi to Agra in less than 2 hours - Yamuna expressway opens on August 9
The 41km stretch of expressway from Electronics City, Bangalore to Madanayakhalli, Bangalore has a toll of Rs.48 for 2-wheelers.
So in a way, Rs.150 toll for 165km of Yamuna Expressway seems reasonable enough.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
@ antz.bin : what you said is 100% true, infact i was also thinking on same lines, i was posting through mobile phone, so couldn't type too much.
Options could be-
1) BHP limit on two-wheelers, like you suggested 15 BHP is good enough.
2) We can have a seperate liscence for riding on expressways. this liscence will have stringent tests and some defined years of riding experience as parameters for getting liscence alongwith thourough knowledge of traffic rules etc.
2) you said that - four wheelers have better survival rate than two-wheelers and further that two-wheelers have a near 100 % fatality rate for accidents on highways, and went then went on to say that this is your guess. well, first of all, if its your guess, please DO NOT USE such large size fonts in caps. second. let me get some facts for you-
Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways- Transport Reserch Wing--> publishes an annual report on data collected related to accidents. the report can be downloaded from their website. i have the PDF of report of year 2010, which was published in 2011- titled- " road accidents in india 2010"- the percentage share of two-wheelers and cars and trucks in total number of accidents is almost same and fatality percentage in cars is marginally more than two-wheelers. see this--
so as per the data available, cars are more safe than two-wheelers is a myth, and facts don't support it.
3) you have also mentioned that we bikers should not use highways as race tracks. let me make it clear to you buddy, i do not use highway as race track, and almost all of my biking buddies follow the same, infact most of respopnsible bikers here on xbhp do not treat highway as race tracks.
those who treat highways as race tracks are not real bikers, they are posers, and that is why i gave my option-2 above.
in the end if you are out on the highway committed to doing a suicide, nothing ... no law can prevent you from doing so, even if you are in a car or a truck, ......infact death rate for cars and trucks is much higher.
@princesirohi:
i apologize twice :
once for the multiposting.its just because ive become rusty while posting..has been a year or so since i last used this forum.
second for using the bold font which i attribute to the size numbers and i had forgotten what i used earlier.
thank you for providing the data . however there are three issues id like to point out
a)accuracy of the data because most two wheeler crashes are noreported.this is a fact..where as 4wheeler crashes are reported for insurance purposes.
b)the data you have provided is not for HIGHWAYSor EXPRESSWAYS. city crashes are entirely different. i hope u can find some highway data if u can ..the stats u provided are interesting
as per my knowledge i read in one of our magazines(auto and motor sport about 7or 8 years ago) about the UShighway association or something likethat where they have mentioned
motorcycles are 35times more like to have fatalities and 7times morelikely for injuries than 4wheelers. please verify that if possible
c) never said anything against you since i dont know u.ointing out that policy is made for all two wheeler riders...and as for maturity of riders in this forum entire threads are filled with post about people doing 145-160 kmph on OUR highways.
ive been there done that and learnt my lessons too..
and from my experience(considerable) as a radiologist who has to report on headinjuries and as emergency room intern earlier.most motorcyclist never make it . many car passengers and drivers also dont make it.
so ride safe. keep using the gear in ur profile picture.
two-wheelers not allowed on expressways is a very new trend catching-in in india. a very sad thing indeed. this is a very bad thing and we should do something to stop it. its like we bikers are outcast or inferior ppl. powerful ppl, rich people who make the laws are not bikers and they travel by cars and think two wheelers are for poor ppl.
this is a really sad mentality and sad thinking that is setting in ...in majority of indians that
1) two wheelers are for poor only.
2) two wheelers are always ridden recklessly.
3) most of the accidents are caused because of two wheelers.
all the above are actually false statements.
i think we are the largest biking community in india, if i am not wrong, and if we cant make ourselves heard, if we cant raise our voice, nobody can.
we should raise a campaigne to change this mindset of ppl. and maybe rope in all two wheeler manufacturers also to add some corporate might.
Majority of the highway/expressway accidents are caused involving motorcycle; by the bursting of their tyres due to overheating,to be more precise. Source: Last week's NDTV report.

.
dealing with and fighting against this mindset every day.
and the question remainswhy do i race? every finishing line is the begining of a new race.
#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different. #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road (:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

well in that case, welcome back buddy...

i agree that the data may not be 100% correct, but i would still say there will not be much difference in errors vis a vis bikes and cars.

this is combined data of city and highways, will try to dig deep and find seperate data for highways.

well, i certainly didn't took anything personal. i just couldn't digest when someone look down on bikers as somebody insignificant who can be pushed aside just because they have 4 wheels.
yes ppl do these kind of speeds but doing those speeds on highways doesn't meant "racing", unless and untill you are actually racing with no regard to traffic conditions and road conditions. i myself do 100-110 kmph but only when i find it safe.
there is a difference between riding fast and riding rash, ofcourse the line is very thin.

i have not seen that report, but if you have online link, plz share it. btw, most news channels now-a-days show crap news, with no basis.
Used the expressway today. Here are Some pointers:
1. Two wheelers ARE allowed on the expressway.
2. Toll is Rs 150 for bikes and Rs 320 for cars. For the kind of road they are offering, the toll is pretty much reasonable.
3. It is free for public till August 15.
4. One of THE best roads in India, arrow straight road without any humps whatsoever, high speed riding is very enjoyable, best place to rip your bike/car or testing top whack. 80 kmph on the speedo feels like doing mere 40 kmph .
5. One can expect lots of crosswinds, though I didn't encountered any.
6. Make sure You have enough fuel. We could not find any petrol pump for initial 25-30 kms and that's why had to return back to Delhi.
7. All the access ramps to the expressway are currently closed so no U-turn possible.
8. Since all the access ramps are closed, several vehicles were coming from the wrong side at pretty high speed.
9. The dividers are very low in height, Any car could easily get over them and get into the oncoming lane.
10. A personal opinion, it gets quite boring after sometime just riding on the straight road.

PS : I was riding a Duke
very useful information bro..as i am getting by your post is that until this expressway will be opened properly, its still risky to go there because of point8 specially..few other points also aren't in its favor at least as of now
Suzuki Gixxer - Current
Karizma ZMR <3 - Sold
Apache RTR160 - Sold
Honda Stunner - Sold
LML Energy - Sold
I was planning to ride on the Independance day all the way to Agra with my wife as pillion (no worries, I own a Quarter Ceeber). Please advise if it is ok to venture all the way on that day?? I was concerned, as the access ramps are closed, no petrol pumps and stuff...I'll be riding with full tank.

Yeah oncoming traffic is surely a big deal considering the vehicles will be doing high speed. But still, alertness is the key. I hope the access ramps will be opened only after 15th when the toll will be charged.

Yeah sure go ahead, just make sure you have enough fuel, water and eatables. Though we didn't encounter any fuel pump/restaurant, it still might be present on later stretch of the expressway.
Just to make up your mind, I even encountered a guy on a black CBR with a girl and by their riding style, they were probably going all the way to Agra.
A point to be noted is that on the Agra side of the expressway. Once you get off the expressway you have to go through heavily congested city stretches, which will take you about an hour. Thus you end up wasting more time by this route. Add to that the fact that you have to all the way to Greater Noida to get onto this ramp.
If you are coming from Gurgaon, its better to go via Sohna, Palwal, Mathura and Agra. It will be much faster. And you get lovely dhabas, petrol pumps and lots of shady trees!!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
