LAUNCH OF TVS PHOENIX 125 IN CHENNAI - YouTube

Why is that we dont have detailed coverage details for this bike from the launch event like we had for others. Was xbhp not invited to the event?

Some more videos on you tube. Seems to be official ones from TVS

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Yes, from the videos it does look impressive. But i am not sure on one feature which was listed in the video, its about the air cushion in the foot pegs. Is it for real or just another marketing funda?

Following is the first ride review of TVS Phoenix by overdrive. It seems they really liked the new engine and new dual spring suspension. Slowly the postivies of all new TVS platform are comming out. I think TVS has struck the right strings for its revival.

Source : 2012 TVS Phoenix in India first ride - Overdrive

The TVS Phoenix 125 top five things you need to know
Is it a rehashed Flame, then?

Not really. The name does have a bit of significance given the relationship of flames to the mythical Phoenix bird, but TVS say their Eco Thrust 125cc engine is almost all-new featuring a high capacity clutch, various improvements, 67kmpl under standard test conditions and among the segments top power and torque figures as well - 11PS and 10.8Nm.
The engines turned out be quite likeable giving out almost no vibration at any speed and feeling quite gutsy right from low down as well. The gearbox is a four-speed unit, though, and I would have thought that a five-speed gearbox would have completed the package, as it were.
The styling is also fresh. There is a lot of Apache RTR in the lines but that gets hidden by the stickering that spans the motorcycle end to end. It looks a lot more sculpted in the flesh than in pics, to be honest, and while I still don't think the Phoenix breaks new styling ground in the segment, it does look pleasing, more than the photos tell you.
                  Is it any good?

In a word, yes. TVS have done a great job of the Phoenix and the chassis, like the engine is pretty capable. TVS have chosen a short 1265mm wheelbase for city agility which takes a little bit of getting used to because the motorcycle is very agile. Changes of direction are weightless and effortless and while we only rode it at the track, it felt very good. That said, near top speeds, you also encounter the flip side of agility. At 85-90kmph speeds (indicated) the motorcycle tends to feel a little light on its feet and wavers about just the slightest bit also - not scary but certainly something I'd like to see in a cross wind situation or the turbulence of a fast highway overtake.
The ride quality though, is the star for me. TVS use a Series Spring for the rear shocks and a longer travel front fork to great effect. What the Series Spring is, two single rate springs on the usual hydraulic damper separated by a PU separator. TVS says this allows them to use a far greater variance in the spring rates than a single multi-rate spring.
In use, the TVS feels very plush and absorbs the road very well. And then surprises you by not losing its cool when you're cornering it hard, either. This is a difficult balance to achieve and TVS' Phoenix manages to straddle both the aspects very adeptly indeed.
                  They say its feature-loaded!

It is. The all-digital instruments, hazard lights and so on and so forth... It is all present and correct. We do have a couple of design detail level issues with a couple of the features, in the way that they have been implemented, but overall, the feature set is pretty complete for a bike in this segment.
So is it the best 125 you can buy?

You can never answer than question until you the ride the bike in the real world and so far no one has gotten saddle time outside the TVS test track. But the short ride makes clear the fact that the TVS Phoenix 125 should be on your list if you are in the 125cc market. Best or not will become clear when we receive our test bike and put it through our road test and comparison test regimens.
                  What is the price?

TVS have priced the Phoenix at Rs 51,000 ex-Chennai for the base model (as in drum brakes) while the bike in the pics, disc brake and all is Rs 53,000 ex-Chennai. The bike is in showrooms.

                              How??

                              TVS Phoenix (Drum) : 11Ps / 114kg (Kerb) = 96.49 Ps/Ton
                              TVS Phoenix (Disc) : 11Ps / 116kg (Kerb) = 94.83 Ps/Ton
                              Discover 125ST (Disc) : 13Ps / 124.5kg (kerb) = 104.42 Ps/Ton
