Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Have you ever come across the term "platform sharing"? It is applicable when two or more vehicles share common components amongst them. Which basically means that if you want spares for your bike X... and if Bike Y has a similar component then you can source the component from bike Y too. And Afaik there is a law which states that a manufacturer has to provide spares to their models for a "x" number of years after the models are discontinued. So what Honda is basically going to do is have 3 or 4 versions of a single new model and add minor changes to it every year(maybe cosmetic, stickers, minor engine tune etc).

Just look at their 500 series. When stripped down they are all very identical and share 90% of the components. So a 500R owner can source a component from a X or a F which means Honda will only have to manufacture the same components for all 3 vehicles which makes for a possible reduction in spare price cost.

but still people have trouble sourcing parts or older versions of activa and their discontinued ETERNO scooter....but if they can manage to introduce and sell so many models and give customers good options while still keeping their price under check then i am not complaining....

I would want to share my experience about sourcing spares. My fathers ultra reliable honda activa 2005 completed close to 60,000 kms and one day the drive belt simply gave way in early 2011. The scooter was at home and we went to purchase the belt drive along with the bushes and the rubber padding. The service center that was a few kilometers away would not sell the spares separately and insisted on the scooter being fixed by them only. To put the long story in short lines, we ended up sourcing the three different parts from 3 different shops in hyderabad. Just imagine if any owner from a far way part of the country encounters this problem... what would the poor soul have to go through.

Drive belt is supposed to be replaced at ever xthousand kms. I think its given in the manual somewhere. I know because my 2006 Dio went through the same but i just had to take a bus ride from a remote part of a highway to a city and then collect the belt from the spares outlet and return back to the scooter parked at a nearby garage after i had to push it all the way there where they replaced the belt for me. It was My mistake though because if i had seen the chart for replacement of parts at particular intervals i wouldnt have been in that situation in the first place.

I agree about the "preventive" maintenance and also replacement as per recommended schedule. However, I was trying to make a point about the kind of support HOnda provides when you need some spares in emergency and situations where you are forced to the whims and fancies of the ASC people. Lucky you, that you did not have to visit multiple dealers for spares etc.
